cstolaircraft wrote:Very nice piece of art! good story on the plane too. I would love to be able to have a plane like that. but until then I catch rides flat when ever I can, I got 1.3 hours in a 172 today. I flew from farmington (kfam) down hwy 67.

Thanks much.

My first airplane was a '74 172. Soon as I got my private ticket I pulled the wheel pants off and landed it on a marshy flat near my house. I mowed a narrow strip on the flat and tamped dirt in some gear-realigning badger holes to prepare the spot for my first off airport landing. Instant runway!! This was back in about '85. Sunk some anchors in the ground for tie downs, got some gas cans for Mogas, and had a great summer. Fall found me back flight training at UND's flying program at GFK.

Years later with the 7ECA I used that same marshy flat for a runway until we had a stretch of wet years which made for some interesting (but fun) landings with 2-3 inches of water across most of the landing strip. That's when I figured out the word "runway" was by necessity a relative term and it was best to pick the spot that best suited my needs and conditions at the moment.

Happy flying.

You got it! Give me a shout first. I don't sit down much and I never know where I'm going to be until I get there that day.

Well I wouldn't say I'm from the Ozarks but I do own a farm in the rural Ozarks of MO, and enjoy visiting the area. Lots of nice folks in the Ozarks, you'd like it too.

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

the 172 I have been flying a 78 172N it flies nice it just seams like a dog compared to the C-170 I have most of my time in. Flying off a mile of pavement is no fun compared to 1300 ft of grass. #-o

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Well, like many projects, this one took much longer than originally anticipated and cost way more than any budget we set or adjusted.
But, after seventeen months of ownership, I finally got to fly our 180! It was worth the time and effort!!!

There are still several projects to finish, but for now it is time to fly!

Here she is in all her glory :? . She's not an extreme back country performer, but she is a solid beginners plane.

Nothing wrong with a Chinook. But it looks like you need a set of skis for it from your avatar. :D
