*** for the most current post go to the end of this thread ***

Mark your calendars, September 28, 29 & 30th for the 5th Annual Texas STOL Roundup.

We will be back at Hondo (KHDO) and barring another hurricane we will have a couple of grass areas available for airplane camping on a first come first served basis, we will be competing off our grass runway, and spectators will have a front row seat. See the event map at the bottom of the Rules & Registration page for the specific areas. We are also working to get a crop duster to spray pesticide over the grass areas to knock back the fire ants etc.

This year Mike Vivion will join myself, Ken Wittekiend and Paul Brown for the STOL/Backcountry Flying Seminar. Last year this was standing room only so we will move it from the training room to the hangar floor.

The new T-shirts are available for sale at our website.

Hope to see you there.

Re: 2018 Texas STOL Roundup

Calendar marked!

We are just south-east of Hondo past Devine. I don't think I will compete (I'm trash at STOL) but I defiantly want to try and be there. Thanks for the advanced heads up and for hosting the event again.

Re: 2018 Texas STOL Roundup

My wife and I are planning to come, and excited that the grass runway will be operational for the event. Hopefully the weather will cooperate this year, and we'll see a "full house" crowd. Lots of fun, for those of you who haven't been to one of these.

Grass Runway & Grass Camping Areas

Just finished a meeting with the city of Hondo, the airport, and the Chamber of Commerce. Our Air Boss Jimmy was on site. Thought you would like to know that the grass runway that we will use in this year's competition is in excellent shape and the two areas we've secured for camping on the grass and the spectator area on the grass are all being mowed frequently.

Here is a map of the layout we plan for this year

Martin Marietta- 2018 Texas STOL Roundup

Excited to announce (and so should you be) that Martin Marietta is again a sponsor that is picking up the cost of the porte-potties at this year's event. Kind of an important component and not very glamorous. Thank you Martin Marietta.

On another note we greatly expanded the grass camping area and I'll have a new map up shortly.

Re: Updated Camping Map 2018 Texas STOL Roundup

We've modified the grass camping area. This make the grass camping area larger then the area we had at Llano on the grass runway.

Re: Rusty's Flying Service @ TX STOL Roundup

Excited to tell you guys that our Air Boss Jimmy flew down to Hondo today to check out the progress of the grass runway and camping areas and said everything is coming along nicely.

He then flew over to Rusty's Flying Service in hopes of enlisting them for spraying these areas before the Roundup to kill off the ants and chiggers and make camping on the grass more enjoyable. Rusty is pleased to help us. Hopefully we will get him to stop by during the Roundup, if he does please be sure and show him your appreciation for his help.

Re: Ladd Gardner Aviation Insurance @ TX STOL Roundup

Excited to announce that for the fourth year in a row Ladd Gardner Aviation Insurance is sponsoring the Texas STOL Roundup.

Please consider giving Ladd at chance to quote your aircraft or hangar insurance next time you need to renew.

Without their support and the support of our other sponsors the Texas STOL Roundup wouldn't take place.

Re: Seminar Giveaways @ TX STOL Roundup

Friday late morning is our STOL/Backcountry Flying Seminar. I plan on donating four copies of the excellent book Fly The Wild & Stay Alive, and four Takeoff Performance Computers to be given away during the seminar. Both of these have no equal in my humble opinion.
