I am kinda missing your distinction. Putting a plane into an area that is at the limit, but still within one's (and one's aircraft's) capability is what we do sometimes on a daily basis. It is the same thing, whether it is a 206 at gross with pax in crappy weather into a fish camp's gravel bar, a beaver on floats at gross out of a shallow, fast-current river, or a 185 with min fuel on beautiful day water skiing.

You're right there is much more responsibility with pax, but the job still gets done, we just accept the responsibility.

It is cool you got your CFI, you will be amazed at how much your learn about flying in your first 100 hours of instructing folks to do the backcountry thing.

That is for certain! The two things that made me a much better pilot were instructing and aerobatics training. There's that old joke that the primary job of a CFI is to keep his/her students from killing both of them, but there's a large element of truth in it. Learning (by doing--it ain't in the books!) to extricate you, the student, and the airplane from the dopey things that students can do becomes second nature--but not at first. The hardest part is where to draw the line before taking over--too soon, and the student doesn't learn; too late, and things can get bent and people can get hurt, or worse.

Props to anyone who wishes to take on the challenge of being a CFI. Excellent training, for sure.

I hope to experience every kind of flying. Aerobatics, backcountry, low & slow, high & hypersonic, and I would even fly on other planets.

BUT, I don't think I want to be a CFI. I simple don't have the patience or people skills.

Criticism is one thing and everyone should be able to take it. Harsh opinionated responses are another and they generally come from the less experienced Johnny do gooder.

Don't be a keyboard pilot and if your out there pushing it, you better know the consequences.

I'm not 100% sure you were referring to my post just previous to yours when you posted the above thoughts. Under the assumption you were referring to my post (because yours was the next one after mine), yes I did read your entire post before replying.

The issue of boundaries between different types of STOL flying has gone up to a higher level because of this and other related discussions lately. Although not specifically related to jackassery (in which I hold a Ph.D.) I thought that the subject of where these borders might be drawn, and which groups of pilots would or should belong in which group, was worth throwing out there for discussion. If I had started a new thread about that subject, some people might have seen that as bandwidth abuse.

Honest Injun AKT, I made no attempt to be harsh or overly opinionated toward anyone in this discussion. Accept my apology if it came off that way. My version of harsh would have been a little more easy to identify.

If the collective opinion of BCP is that I'm a Johnny do-gooder... well I humbly accept that upgrade with a smile

The internet is amazing. Never assume. Certainly was not referring to anyone person EZ

I just over the Internet. Lot of folks sure love hearing themselves talk and you will never get everyone to agree on any topic.

^^Good one. The creativity in some of those things is amazing. The other day I pronounced "Meme" as "mime" instead of "meem" (what the hell do I know anyway). The young person in the room got a kick out of it.

Sorry, a little off target there. [emoji1]
