Re: Rans S-21 build!

Alright, with some new found time on my hands, we’re making some progress again! My boys and I are getting some loose ends wrapped up and prepping for paint. Elevator push/pull tube is finaly complete, did the final fitting and trimming on the upper upper and lower boot cowl, seats are done, and we got the lexan work done on the left hand door. And my oldest made a lego super cub/SQ model

Re: Rans S-21 build!

A lot has happened in the last few weeks! Wing tips, fuel tanks, doors, paint booth, and some paint! Fuselage is painted and ready to go back on the gear. Vertical stab and rudder will be tomorrow also. Super happy with the paint setup and progress recently!

Re: Rans S-21 build!

One critique! That Odyssey battery.....no doubt supplied with the kit. This is 2020, it's very old tech now!

While a great battery (mine lasted for years in my ATV, after many years of plane service) it's just 10-12 pounds of useless extra weight. Some of that weight loss can be in a smaller and lighter battery box. I'm talking of course of using the EarthX. While I don't really know if RANS is still sending them out with the kits, like they did with my two S-7's, if so, they are ignoring the proven EarthX line of batteries, with a substantial weight loss. When you put your completed airplane on the scales for the first time, and it comes out heavier then you had hoped (THEY ALL DO), keep this comment in mind. Looking great otherwise, and I admit it's a minor detail, I just love my EarthX and dropping 10 pounds at least is huge for a light plane.

Re: Rans S-21 build!

Thanks for sharing your build, It's turning out awesome. I hope you can shed some light on a question I have. Do you think there is room for a back seat passenger like the jump seat in the Zenith Super Duty or back-facing like the Glastar or a sideways seat like in the Murphy Rebel? I fly by myself 90% of the time but like to take short trips with the wife and kiddo now and again. I see on Rans website that baggage weight can be up to 180 pounds with the Titan. I'd appreciate any insight you have. Keep up the awesome work. Subscribed!

Short answer, no. I have two little boys myself and would not stuff them back there. The baggage is large but the floor is fairly high above the belly accommodate the control cables and such. This is a two person airplane for sure, unless you’re talking about a baby in a car seat.

@jaredp Hey mate I don't suppose you have a closeup of the rotisserie attachment to the tail of the fuselage?

Re: Rans S-21 build!

Any chance there are any updates on the build? Just saw this thread for the first time and was hoping it wouldn't end!

Holy crap! I just realized how long it’s been since an update on our project! Here’s a brief, picture heavy, summary of where we’re at.

The leading edge landing lights come as a kit option from Rans with the lens/cover included
