Re: Rans S-21 build!

This has been a big week so far!!! We got the right wing basic build up done, including the mounting of the Dynon pitot tube/AOA. Both wings are now to a point where we are ready to move on to the rest of the airplane. We still need to complete the fuel tank installation and wing tip installation on both wings. Then today, the Titan 340 arrived! This thing looks amazing!!!! When you order the engine, you have several color choices, including custom colors. We chose a metallic pewter in hopes that the lighter color would make seeing oil leaks and imperfections easier to spot during inspection. I’m super happy with the color choice! The engine came crated nicely with all the accessories boxed with it. Skytec starter, precision fuel injection, LSE plasma electronic ignition, alternator, etc. The engine is set up for fixed pitch prop and 100LL(9:1).

Great looking motor. I wish there was an STC for the 170.

I was thinking that same thing! That would be amazing in my straight tail 172!

I’m super impressed with the kit. We’ve done wings, flaps, and ailerons so far with no major hang ups. My only complaint is we’ve come up short on the number of rivets a few times. We’ve been short a half dozen rivets in several sizes. Not a big deal. The parts are clean, holes placement is accurate, and things are coming together well. Our fuselage kit shipped last week so I’m anxious to see how that hoes!

Re: Rans S-21 build!

What have your build times been for the kits you've done so far? Also what's been the shipping costs from RANS? Trying to piece my own timeline together.

I would have to look at our invoices but it’s not cheap.

Dave Stoots is working on a Titan IO 370 STC for the 170/172/175.

Re: Rans S-21 build!

Not much progress but we recieved our fuselage and tail kit yesterday. I salvaged some of the shipping crate, painted it with white primer, hung it on the wall, and stapled all the small loose parts to it. Things are gonna over Christmas break!

Re: Rans S-21 build!

Looks like your gonna have to strap some skis to the fuselage and take it down a snowy hill. Should make a good roll bar!

Re: Rans S-21 build!

I'm very interested in building one but the delivery dates are what I don't like. On Facebook someone just told me they bought one in June 2018 and still haven't received anything even though they were promised 3 months for the first parts to start arriving. It's now what, 6 months?

Waiting on a reply from Ran's right now to see why.

Check out www.ransclan.com to see the reason for the delay in delivery. It's a fairly new design and as such has its own growing pains along with a great amount of buyers waiting in line.

Re: Rans S-21 build!

Got three days off of work and made some progress this weekend. Really happy with how the fuslage is coming together. Im hoping to have a rolling fuselage on its gear within the next couple weeks.

Re: Rans S-21 build!

I think if I ever get to a point where I can build my own little plane, I will go with the S-21.

Not only is it a nice little setup, but RANS is only about 60 miles away!

Looks amazing, can't wait to see how it turns out! The more I look at it, I think I'll be saving my pennies to do an S-21 build.

Mate - can you do me a favour and take some pics of the re-inforcing you did for the Dynon AoA? I am about to do exactly the same thing...
