I just installed one for Goose in his 185 so I thought I would send a friendly reminder for all you Cessna drivers out there...

They no longer reimburse for labor, but Cessna STILL has their FREE seat stop kit available to take advantage of. This is a great mod AND it may save your bacon.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy

1) Call and order the part from Yingling. The P/N is: SK210-174B and sells for $1098.00. http://www.cessnadirect.com/home.php
2) Have it installed by ANY A&P.
3) Scan the log entry, receipt, and 8130 that came with the part. (log entry must contain date, N#, and A/C TT)
3) eMail it to Sandy over at Yingling (sbrooks at yinglingaviation dot com)
4) They will send you a check for the part

I bought the kit a few years ago. Didn't install it until recently. Figured I missed out on the rebate for taking too damn long. Life sorta got in the way for awhile. Any way, is this rebate deal only for the Left side? Or will they rebate parts for the right side as well?

Good reminder. I just checked a guy out in a 66 180 and suggested these as the first mod he install. He did.

Just applies to the pilot side. If you purchased from Yingling, I would still give it a try. Im pretty sure they dont care as Cessna is footing the bill.

Spoke to Sandy Brooks at Yingling today and she confirmed that the program only applies to the kit for the left pilot seat. Rebate is good through 31 Dec. for ANY kits purchased from them.

Good PSA. Have one on our Wagon, must have for sure. Like shoulder harness, I won't fly a Cessna without one.

Can the install be completed by any A&P or does it have to be a Cessna authorized service center?

Any A & P can install them. the pilot side is still free, but you'll have to buy the copilot side. And well worth it.

This is often a misconception. As MTV says, ANY A&P can install and sign the logbook entry.

Earlier, Cessna only paid for it (all of it, both parts and labor) if it was done at a Cessna service center. I had mine installed a couple of years ago. Since I had to fly to Erie, CO, to have it done, I stuck around to watch the installation. It's not exactly a DYI sort of thing, so expect to pay for most of a day of labor, if Cessna's not reimbursing for the labor. Proper adjustment of the components is pretty critical, too, but once installed and adjusted properly, it's pretty seamless in its function.

Dont mean to disagree, but the install is not that big of a deal. W/ respect to the adjustment, its just a simple nut, so no biggie. Depending on which install, Cessna reimbursed 2 or 3 hours of labor. I have done a handful now, and would say that's about right. (sorry Mate )

No worries--I think the lengthy time the mechanics there took on mine was because it was the oldest airplane they had worked on in awhile, and that my pilot seat is actually an "articulated" passenger seat although installed on the pilot side threw them a couple curve balls. I arrived around 10 a.m., they actually started working on the airplane around 11 a.m., and except for lunch, worked pretty continuously until just before 5 p.m., so I'd guess actual hours was just about 4 1/2. And besides, you just might be a whole lot more skillful than they were!

I have a 62 model with plain old tubed seats. No extra adjustments or anything on them. I have the kit installed and it works great. I have never had it interfere with my getting in and out, albeit I'm not on floats. I'll snap a picture of it installed when I go fuel my plane up later today and post it on this thread for you.

I was looking at my bud's '59 straight tail 182 last night after he had just completed the seat stop kit on tube frame seats. Very clean and unobtrusive. All tucked up underneath and nothing sticking out at all. I think anyone will be happy with that installation. Most of the components are adel clamped on as opposed to the later ones like mine (70s) that require more fabrication and riveting.

Here is the install on mine. As you can see, the belt stays nice and low. Hard to hook you foot on it. Not sure if your seats are different then mine 54c180, but I think they are the same.

I put them in a 52 170 with standard seats.....simple install and they work great. The airplane was on floats, and never any issues with this kit at all.

I'm kinda surprised there are any Cessnas left without the mod. Nuts.

It's crazy not to do it for several reasons. Free ....and it could save your life are a couple good ones.
