Rosen Visors

Flew tonight with the sun low and directly ahead on base making it very hard to see. My plane doesn't have sun visors and I'm considering a set of Rosens, pricey though. For those of you that have flown behind Rosen's, how good are they on reducing low angle sun glare, a world of difference or just better?

Thanks.

Re: Rosen Visors

I'm also curious about this. Also wondering if there is a way to tint the sun coming through the greenhouse roof. Its gets damn hot and if I could tint it withough having to replace the glass that would be great.

Re: Rosen Visors

I have had two planes with them. Well technically one set on two planes. Sold the plane that had the rosens but put on original visors before the plane was sold with log book entry. Put em on the second plane with no entry.

I think they are great but spendy.

I dig em... Did the same thing and moved em from the 170 to the 180.

Re: Rosen Visors

I installed Rosens in my 170 and loved them. I'd put a set in any aircraft I owned that didn't already have them. Nicely built and installation is pretty cake.

Thanks, Zane! I love the Rosens! I agree, I would add them to any plane I owned that didn't already have them.

Re: Rosen Visors

Well, I guess I am the lone dissenter.

Tinted sun visors are standard on commercial aircraft, but I much prefer and use quality glasses and a hat.

I spend a lot of time flying towards sunsets and sunrises and the hat works great.

Re: Rosen Visors

I love mine. Especially the way I can position them at different angles and flip them up or down, or extend to one side or the other in my Husky cockpit.

I loved the price. I got a call from a guy at Rosen that said he was sending me everything I needed. "But I hadn't ordered them," I said. He said "that's ok. You can have 'em for free. Just promise you'll install them and use them." So I did. A few months later he called me back: "how do you like 'em?" he asked. I said I loved them and I planned on continuing to use them. He said "Great. Thanks for the feedback," and I have never heard from him since.

Great product, great company!

Re: Rosen Visors

I've had mine in my P172D for almost 9 years, and I wouldn't own an airplane without them.

Re: Rosen Visors

Rosens came with my plane. They seem to be better at knocking headsets off and putting holes in your head than shading the sun. IMO the hat and sunglasses technique mentioned above is the best sunshade.

FWIW much of the flying I do is close to the ground doing lots of leaning forward constantly looking around n such. The Rosen's will constantly snag my headset, in any position, which is dang annoying.

The compromise I came up with, after almost removing them, was to keep the little red knob that is used to adjust the shade permanently removed, this way the shade will slide out and I can huck it in back when it is getting in the way.

Re: Rosen Visors

Here is a pic of shade with red knob removed on left seat and how I stow it out of the way when shade is removed. The shade slides out or back in real easy.

Looks like you have the pilot side visor on backwards.

Re: Rosen Visors

The Rosen Visors are a great improvement over the original tinted visors that were in my plane. They are larger and articulate better.

If I could only have one (Visors or good glasses), I would choose good glasses. Glasses block direct light AND glare. Visors only block direct light but reflected light remains a problem. And the optics are better in my glasses. My home runway is oriented directly east-west and in the evening when the sun is low and directly off the runway, I much prefer landing into the sun with my glasses.

If I could have both.........wait a minute. I do have both. I do use the Rosens frequently and like them.

Cary,

Have had em positioned both ways, they are both installed the same, just the red adjustment knob is removed pilot side. Flipped em around when replaced the windshield in hopes that might help...same deal

Re: Rosen Visors

I've had them in several airplanes. They are an improvement over the factory ones in Cessna's. Sometimes they are annoying, they just get in the way. They do scratch up and get somewhat tired looking. Since there is not really any alternative, other than the generally crap factory ones, I put up with them. I tend to bump my head on them frequently, but they do provide a convenient place to hang the shoulder harnesses.

As for the sun, I try to always fly away from it, its just annoying. When I used to fly in the Med, we always launched at sunrise, directly into it, fly east all morning, directly into it. In the Afternoon, when we returned, the sun had an annoying habit of being in the west causing the exact same condition. So our solution, carefully fold charts and place them in the windscreen. I just can't get the iPad to fold up and stay in place, now that I don't tend to carry paper anymore. So I guess I'll need to move to a planet that doesn't rotate.

They are nicely made, but pricey. That are a snap to install in many airplanes. I have thought of replacing the thick plexi with a softer, flexible plastic. They do tend to bump into the seaplane braces, requiring some manipulation to get them around them. So a thin version would flex a bit. Then it probably sag and piss me off giving me one more thing to bitch about to myself when I fly.

We've had Rosens on three airplanes and would never go without them. Well worth the money!
I have a set for a Maule if anybody needs a set.
