Tomorrow morning I will depart for my second checkride as a licensed pilot. I'll be flying a 160 horse Skyhawk on Aqua 2200s.

Is your DPE Mary A?

Just fly the plane....airwork isn't really part of this checkride, since that's the same in wheels and floats. But being smooth with your maneuvering gives the DPE a sense for your flying. Like any checkride, if you don't understand anything the DPE asks you to do, politely ask them to explain again.

But, the ride is all about the maneuvers and the knowledge spelled out in the test standards....if you've got a good handle on that stuff, you should have no problem.

I'm flying with Woody tomorrow morning. I have always tried my best to maintain positive & smooth control over the airplane. Should be a fun challenge!

I am adding a new category/class to my certificate. I currently hold a SEL and will hold a SEL&S if things go well tomorrow.

Back when I used to lease my amphib to a flight school, the examiner they used would hold his hand about an inch in front of the yoke as you approached a water landing. If the yoke touched his hand during landing, you busted. He wanted to make sure tailwheel drivers didn't carry over the habit of "pinning" the landing with a forward snap of the stick or yoke. Bad for water landings. Throttle closed and yoke full aft upon water contact.

Standard checkride briefing at my last airline, " You'll do fine...just don't fuck it up".

Just remember: pitch for speed, & POWER for altitude. That, & the sweet spot is all there is to it.

Congrats! It's got to be the single most fun flying thing I've done in my life, earning my SES. I'm sure you agree.

Lets just say that I had a big smile while working towards the rating, even during the checkride. That stuff is fun!
