Don't remember much of the details, but a several years ago, I think there were 3r that maybe robbed something over in Cortez, small town about 50 miles west of here. They shot a local policeman, and headed for SE Utah. They were hiding in the Mexican Hat area. I think some remains were found.

Mornin to you to, sir! Happy Thanksgiving to you and all BCPers as well!

I was going to do a Google search on that, but lost interest (found other interesting stuff  ).

Re: Shooting Suspect Hiding Near Caveman Ranch!!!

bought a book when I was on my trip last summer... Biography of Butch Cassidy.... Pretty accurate history of his exploits in the Utah Idaho Wyoming area at the turn of the century... Butch and Sundance and anothe wild buncher, I believe it was Matt Warner, robbed the bank in Montpelier Idaho... Their escape route wound through Wyoming and Utah chased by several posses. They crossed the Colorado on the ferry at Moab and just flat disapeared in the desert. but then they knew the desert better than the law guys. They stayed in caves and knew where springs and good water was and Butch made sure he had the fastest horses he could find. Now Gary once posted that they hid out at caveman which isn't more than 10 miles from Moab but he'll have to elaborate on that one..Not that that has much to do with this situation other than the wild and remote country is the same...

Well the arrest warrant may give us some insight as to why this Dirtbag was angry and decided to shoot at a Park Ranger.

He got in a fight with his Mommy.

I get it, your mommy kicks you out and since you're to worthless to have a job and take care of yourself. You make the life decision to try and kill someone so you will have meals, weight room, TV and a boy friend.
Prolly thought he could just shoot and run like on TV. They will find the body 10 miles down the river. Not to many people his age know how to take care of gunshot wounds, hypothermia, etc.

Shooting Suspect Hiding Near Caveman Ranch!!!

58Skylane wrote:Wasn't there some other fugitives that pretty much disappeared in the Utah desert within the last 10-15 years? Not sure the details, but I remember a massive man hunt for a similar situation.

It's actually a very interesting story. Same county (this current situation happened in San Juan County though Grand County patrols it through an agreement due to access to the area.) The remains of the third perp were finally found years later in the desert - probable suicide. Good summary here: http://www.halmansfield.com/Creativity/ ... CLOSED.htm

But as mentioned above better things to think about on Thanksgiving :)

Happy thanksgiving all, I really didn't intend to stir up any hard feelings by my remarks, and I apologize for doing it, just kinda got suckered in. I want you to know that I really love and respect my Country and it's Officers, even tho my remarks may not have sounded that way.... Nuf Said.

I hope that you all have a great Thanksgiving, a wonderful Holiday Season, mostly tailwinds, and may all of your landings be soft like a butterfly with sore feet...

If I were betting, I'd say he's at least three days cold.

Living at home at 40 years of age. Lets make a list of life skills he has attained so far in life.

May be a good shot and that is all I can think of.

Another fine book that describes the area well: Last of the Robbers Roost Outlaws - Moab's Bill Tibbetts.

It takes a big man to cry. But it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Don't think so. My bet is if found alive he will fight to the death no matter what condition he is in.

Re: Shooting Suspect Hiding Near Caveman Ranch!!!

Actually, Tim, that hardly ever happens. Consider once again the aforementioned Claude Dallas, who escaped from prison, was on the run for some time, and was arrested by a state cop--who knew who he was based on the warrant.

You been watching TV again? 8)

Re: Shooting Suspect Hiding Near Caveman Ranch!!!

My friend and I were hunting above Grand Junction a few years ago. We could pick up the local Station from Grand Junction. There was a story about a guy that the cops chased and cornered up on the Colorado Monument. The story said that when the suspect was cornered he decided to get out of his car and run off the edge of a 2,000 foot cliff. Always wondered why he didn't drive?

I think it is called teamwork.
