Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

Got my co-pilot up to speed and got him flying today. I think he likes the 180 much better than the 170. Lets see your photos...

Thumper has graduated ground school, still pre-solo though. She watches for other aircraft some, but mostly curls up on the back seat and sleeps.

Wife thinks Thumper is possessed, so her middle name is "Beelzepup".

Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

How do you guys get your dogs to keep the muffs on? Duke has to wear sun glasses when he is outside and it is almost impossible to keep them on him. I can't imagine what adding mutt muffs to the mix would do.

ditto what Whee says. I can put them on but before the wheels leave the ground she has them off.

Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

Thumper took the Mutt Muffs off just once. In a tandem Husky, no way I was able to reach around and put them back on. That was a learning experience for her . . . take 'em off - - lots of noise. Smart dogs learn quick like and don't take them off a second time.

BTW, I have a set of medium Mutt Muffs, worn once, as new in original packaging . . . $45 (includes shipping to 48)

Edit: SOLD . . . that was quick :D

Molly has been flying with me from when she was about 10 weeks old. She doesn't like night flying, she doesn't like turbulence at all, and she gets pretty antsy when we get close to the rocks in the mountains. Otherwise, she seems to have a pretty good time.

Django sitting in the very back with Guinness sitting on mom's lap. Both like their Mutt Muffs. Django is the poster child for Mutt Muffs if you ever see their booth at Oshkosh.

Small size Mutt Muffs (daschound... approx.) $35 shipped. She won't leave them on !!
Not as good a learning curve as others have seen, I guess.

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

I had no problem teaching Molly to wear the Mutt Muffs, but she often pushes them off and down onto her neck accidentally by putting her head between the seats. Once in awhile she will just take them off, and other times I can fly for 2 hours or more and she still has them on. So there's nothing magic about it. It helps that she's an exceptionally calm dog, but just like you and I get tired of our headsets at times, I think she tires of the Mutt Muffs--but then she can't put them back on by herself.

I also have an oxygen mask for her, but so far I've been 100% unsuccessful in keeping it on her more than 2 1/2 seconds.

From having a fellow four legged co-pilot who passed away a while back these pics made me smile and remember what true friends are :)

Here's a few of Reese. She wears her mutt-muffs for the most part.... except for the landing phase when she starts to get excited :)

Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

Did you hear about the hunting dog named Co-pilot? She did such a great job pointing and retrieving that her owner decided to re-name her "Captain". Bad move-- after that, all she did was sit on her ass & bark. #-o

Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

Murphy fought the mutt muffs for the first 5 minutes. After we were airborne, the lightbulb turned on and he hasn't fought them since.

Here he is and the girlfriend. They both love snow:

Re: Short Field Co-Pilot... Photos?

Anyone ever try foam ear plugs in their dogs? I use them all the time now, cant keep the muffs on to save their butt. They seem way more content and no scratching, pawing, nothing. To me the muffs just dont seem like they can seal out the noise that great. Roll em up, stick em in, done. Will have to get some pics next ride out...
