Skywagon Rigging

I have a question for those knowledgeable with Skywagon flap rigging. The flap control cables were found to be twisted during my annual. I do not know much about rigging, but this doesn't look right to me. Anyone know if:

1. Is this right
2. If not, what causes the cables to get twisted (rigged wrong, or does flap use somehow cause the cables to twist over time).

Thanks,

Eric

Re: Skywagon Rigging

The connection was just made with the cable untensioned or in a non-neutral position. But the fact remains that everytime you are using the flaps, this is twisting and untwisting resulting in minor, though unneeded stress to the system. Don't know if it could cause it to jump out of a pulley? You should be able to reconnect the separate cables to the main cable while they are all with neutral twist and it should correct the issue.
What I don't get is it looks like the swaged and swiveled end should be free to undo the twist, so the twisting stress is more in the paired cable to the individual flap rather than the main/single cable, thus the twist may have been introduced when tensioning the turnbuckle - or am I totally missing something?
BTW, that looks like a really clean belly! You need to judiciously spray everything down with more oil and grease...

Re: Skywagon Rigging

Eric,

I have dealt with this a few times and have been able to make it go away all but twice; some just have to twist...a little.

Have a helper put your flaps in the full up position and hold the flap bar down tight to the floor and you should be able to remove the down cable clevis bolt and see if they will untwist on their own, reinstall the clevis bolt and safety.

Have a helper pull full flaps and hold it tight and then do the up cable the same way and safety.

You might have to loosen the turnbuckles to do this but I have not had to.

It is posable that your cables are rigged way too tight?
