Sportsman with an AP
Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?
Anybody know about installing an AP on a 58 182 with a Sportsman STOL. What AP and any special issues.
Thanks
Jack

I don’t think there would be an issue installing any approved autopilot in a 182 with a sportsman. Unless there’s a note in the approval forbidding it?
There has been a problem installing autopilots on Robertson airplanes as the aileron linkage is modified with the Robertson installation.

STC SA4303WE is the Sportsman Approval for the 182.
The approval reads as follows:
The approval of this change in type design applies to the basic aircraft of the specified model that is otherwise unmodified. This approval should not be extended to other aircraft of this model on which other previously approved modifications are incorporated unless it is determined by the installer that the interrelationship between this change and any of those other previously approved modifications will introduce no adverse effect upon the airworthiness of that aircraft.
I read this as meaning that the installer has discretion to determine if it introduces adverse effects, and if not, can install it.
You would also need to check your intended autopilot and make sure it does not have a prohibition of some kind, as well as VGs if you intend to install them.

There are plenty of 180's with sportsman and auto pilot.
Mine is one, no issues with GFC500, works great.
