It was. Started out slow with nasty winds and rain which slowed the fish biting and made fishing tricky, but the final two days the sun came out and the fish turned on. All total around 160 fish caught and released. Most were excellent Rainbow Trout, also Salmon, Char, and Grayling.

On the way home we flew down to Bristol Bay to check out this old cannery. Landed on their old strip and walked around a bit.

This photo is from yesterday. Fall colors and temps are here. Sure is beautiful.

The sun shown today and I headed out exploring. Flew over a lot of glaciers but the colors of this one were just so intriguing.

Even with over a thousand hours of landing her off airport without a doubt this is still the best looking SQ2 ever. Of course I might be a bit prejudice…Nah!

This is my favorite time of year to fly. Wow is all I can say.

Re: SQ2'n in Alaska

Thanks David.

Sun came out yesterday and since it's raining today and forecast the same for tomorrow, and Saturday I head to Texas, I decided to head down the Peninsula and scout some new places. Found this one. Great to see the volcanoes across the Inlet.

Re: SQ2'n in Alaska

Hands down the most beautiful day of the year. I was so excited to go explore areas of the Kenai Fjords I have yet to see. Thought this would be the perfect day. But the wind was cranking. 50+ across the mountain tops rotoring down to the sea. To get out of there I had to go to 8,500 feet for smooth air, ground speed of 25mph.

Re: SQ2'n in Alaska

Sometimes I get stuck on putting together a video, usually with the music. I've been stuck for about three weeks now and finally decided to find a song I liked irrespective of the video length, and then adjust the video to fit. Bingo.

This is one of the last videos this year with the camera mounted outside the cockpit, the temperature is getting to cold, the camera shuts off.

Re: SQ2'n in Alaska

One of the most amazing things to me about Alaska is I can land in places that not only have never been landed before, but more importantly have never had a human footprint before- until mine. Life has been going on from before the beginning of mankind, never seeing nor caring about mankind, and man wasn’t there to witness it. That really puts one in one’s place. That is the inspiration for the music in this video.

Re: SQ2'n in Alaska

Nice to get caught up with my videos. These last two have been really easy to fit music to.

Decided to do some beach combing yesterday. Forgot how nice the beaches are north of here.

A little over a week ago a couple of friends and I went beach flying. Really enjoyed their company.

I'm planning to take the kids up for a float plane trip either to Nahanni or Kluane next summer. I can see where if we do Kluane we'll have to go over to Kenai too and see some of that coastal beauty. BCs coast looks pretty different from yours.

Re: SQ2'n in Alaska

So I'm back from my first ski flight, what a hoot! I'll put a video together but I wanted to share two things now. First right out of the hangar I managed to get stuck (see pic)- ha ha ha I know. No amount of power would move me forward (it is a good snow blower though, right down to the grass), reminded me of getting stuck on that island. Anyway not to worry I just bought this really cool light weight avalanche shovel from REI (see pic). Once I looked at how much snow I needed to dig away the avalanche shovel was not quite as cool. Fortunately I had a real snow shovel in the garage. Anyway got her flying and landed a number of local float plane lakes. Guess tomorrow I'll be shopping for a big plastic snow shovel for the plane. What fun I had!

Is your Hangar heated, Phil? Coming out of a warm (or even warmer) Hangar onto snow can make skis stick down. Once they’re stuck, let them sit for a bit, then gently kick the toe of each ski sideways.....all you’re trying to do is shear that snow to ski bond caused by the temp change. I’ve never flown those skis, but this technique works with skis with UHMW on the bottoms.

Have fun.
