SQ2'n in Alaska

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: SQ2'n in Alaska

Phil- I have this old magazine ad I clipped and pasted in my first logbook. It says:

Things to do today:
1. Wake up
2. Breathe
3. Fly!

You appear to be living that ad =D>

Oh yeah, on those departures like your last photo- kind of a trip to be climbing out and the VSI is still reading negative!

Thanks!

There is just no way life gets any better then this. Guys and Gals run, don't walk, and get up here, there just aren't words to describe it.

Re: SQ2'n in Alaska

Glad to have gotten to fly with you this summer. Had a great time, and learned a bunch as well. Back at work now paying the Piper until Sept. If I don't catch you in the fall I'll see you next season.

Re: SQ2'n in Alaska

Wasn't great Wx yesterday but good enough to go play. Joined up with Bob Breedon with no real destination in mind other then to go. Landed a few places I'd overlooked, good lesson there, and ended up on the beach at the Kenai Fjords.

Wonder what's in store for today? :-)

Re: SQ2'n in Alaska

Today started by flying down the coast out over the ocean. Being a three-day weekend there were lots of beach goers. Had a 25mph head wind so was fun to slow the SQ2 and just hang it in the air like a helicopter, folks on the beaches certainly enjoyed it as evidenced by the numbers with their phones out.

Anyway I eventually turned inland and headed to an area I call "Caribou Hills" where I saw.... caribou.

And check out the blue in some of these icebergs. Put some of that in a glass and try a chew it and you'd bust all your teeth. Sure is beautiful.

Looks like you're living the dream, Phil.
I love that riverbed stuff, great to see the tires being put to work.
Keep the photos coming!

Looks awesome, do you run a filter on your camera? If so, which one?

I use a Drift Ghost camera and I do use a ND filter I bought off Amazon. It was the only one I was able to find for the Ghost

I blasted down to Texas for a week to visit my daughter/granddaughter. Gonna hang out in Anchorage for the day then head over to Birchwood to get the SQ2 (was having some maintenance done to it while I was gone) and fly home tonight.

Re: SQ2'n in Alaska

Your pictures are helping me convince the wife that we need to buy a cabin up there. Even if it costs me some of my recreational flying budget for a while. I need to get back again this year!

Just spent a couple of weeks in your neck of the woods and am pretty sure I touched the face of God at the base of Denali! Words can't describe. Soldotna, Kenai, Seward, Valdez, Homer, Merrill, Talketna, Denali, tons of mountain ranges and glaciers! Unbelievable! I'm stuck in Lillooet BC right now but hope to post a report with pics at some at some point when I return. Sorry I missed you. Next time!
