A somewhat happy ending for the two brand new Rans S-7S planes "totaled" in the storm - one of which won Grand Champion. From the Rans Clan Forum
Thought I'd update what's been going on the last 5 weeks or so...
With a lot of help, Rick and I dismantled the planes at Sun n Fun to haul them to South Lakeland airport for storage until the insurance could be settled.

With both Rick and I purchasing the salvage rights, I flew commercial to Lakeland 2 weeks ago and removed all the usable parts from the wings. We left the carcasses in Lakeland to be hauled off as scrap. It was TOUGH cutting holes in the fabric to remove the guts...I'm not much of a surgeon...

Dean from RANS drove their enclosed trailer down from Hays, and we (mostly Dean) loaded the fuselages onto the trailer for the drive 'home'. He did a great job tying everything down.

A week ago Thursday, Rick flew his RV-8 from Virginia, and I flew my RV-4 from San Antonio to Hays. We met with Randy for most of the day on Friday to discuss the rebuild, as well as a few things we both wanted to change from our original builds. Randy was very patient with all our ramblings. We even got to ride of couple of his cool bikes up and down the road.
The fraternal twins back home in Kansas...

That's the new S-7S demo plane about to be finished up.

A pic of the new S-7S wing (ready for covering) that we'll be getting on our planes. 26 gallons of fuel, flush fuel caps, stamped ribs, a new aileron design eliminating the spades, and possibly carbon fiber wingtips. All great changes to the wing. Randy really works hard to update things. He has LOTS of ideas!

The rebuild started this week. Can't wait to be flying the Rans again!
