Taking our kid for his first flight

I don't post here much anymore, life is busy, blah blah blah, you've heard it all before. I did think that this was appropriate to share for those of you who I don't see anywhere else.

A couple of weeks ago we took Lochton up for his first flight in the airplane. At first he was not happy with us - we had to wake him up from napping in the car on the way to the airport so we could put the car seat in the airplane - wait, does that make it an airplane seat? Hmm. He was still was a bit grumpy as we put on his ear protection, strapped him in, and started the airplane. However, as soon as we accelerated down the runway, his disposition changed from grumpy to a mix of wonder and terror! He held on to Emily's finger for dear life as he experienced this new sensation and tried to figure out if he was cool with it or not.

After a few minutes of flying in the smooth, cool air, he calmed down and began to enjoy the ride. The car seat was high enough that he could look outside, and he took it all in. Until he fell asleep. Falling asleep to the sweet sounds of the airplane engine is just what we hoped would happen. It was a great flight, and now he's ready for some real airplane adventures!

Love it. Man, I miss the old get togethers. We need to have a reunion meet up.

Thanks everyone - we're just trying to raise him right. Hopefully we can get him and the plane dirty in the backcountry soon!

Re: Taking our kid for his first flight

Great photos,

My wife who usually goes glassy eyed with the 1,000 yard stare when I offer up another "cool" plane picture loved it. BTW that's my oldest daughter in my avatar. It's also fun flying with them as adults. Enjoy them while they are young. Before you know it they will be living in the southern hemisphere with a Chilean raft guide you have never met...
