I just posted in there. I believe it's a situation where a Admin. has to enable your profile before you can post.

As I recall, the admin on that site is a super busy guy with a lot going on. I recall a wait of some sort to get goin myself. I haven't been over there in years though.

A buddy of mine in AK had an F-19 on floats. It was a very capable and fun airplane!

From what I've been told there's really no comparison, but I have a A65/75 Tcraft with VG's and a 1200 ft grass strip with another 1000 ft of overrun. If you ever get up this way for any reason I'd gladly take you up and let you get a feel for what they can do.

Re: Taylorcraft Forum

I was just on that forum and they're attempting to get your problem sorted out.... it's kinda a mess over there at times....seems the software isn't supported and they don't want to change, etc.... at any rate, Robb Lees is trying to get you going I think. Victor Bravo built a small fire under them, so hopefully it'll get things done.
Chuck Avon's 85hp Tcraft (that I linked to you before) is still available. It's about the best deal I've seen in years on one when you consider all the mods he's done and gotten approved!!
Good luck, we'll be looking for you over there!
John

PS...nothing really slow about a Tcraft other than the landing speed....just ask the cub owners!

Re: Taylorcraft Forum

I finally got in! thanks nefj40 for dropping the line for me! I saw chuck's plane was still on the market a few weeks ago, its one plane that I would be very interested in seeing.

Re: Taylorcraft Forum

Absolutely NO better bang for the buck than an 85HP upgrade on the stock short-mount Taylorcraft.

15-20 miles an hour faster than a Cub with the same power, but Only 3-4 miles an hour faster than the Cub at low speed. A well flown T-craft cannot stay with the Cub in only the last little 5% of super-STOL strips. For this sacrifice you can buy two Taylorcrafts for the price of one Cub.

The Taylorcraft will require a little more STOL practice and instruction (to get the most out of it) than a Cub will. The 85 Taylorcraft will be able to operate out of a 500 foot clearing unless the weather is really gusty and turbulent.

As mentioned, I did indeed light a fire under them recently on behalf of someone (another forum) who was having trouble getting registered. Rob Lees and several of the other guru's over there are an invaluable resource.

The Taylorcraft forum and owner's group does not have anywhere near the amount of "Deliverance" hillbilly closed-mindedness and bullying that is found in some parts of the Super Cub community. Much better environment.

Re: Taylorcraft Forum

Reuben, I hope you don't mind me asking, but how tall are you and how much do you weigh? The most significant limiting factor in the Taylorcraft is that you cannot be a really big boy and be comfortable in one.

The seat is actually adjustable (not many people know that), and my skylight modification gives a taller pilot an extra few inches of headroom. But this aircraft is still not the best choice for a very large pilot. Forrest Barber (chief T-craft guru) fits into one and he's a big boy, but most big guys are not comfortable.

The front seat of a Cub is no picnic for big guys either of course, same reason as the T-craft (same designer). But at least you can fly the J series from the back where you have room.

If you're a Linebacker or a chocolate manufacturer, you probably need to be looking at a Champ.

If you fit in the Taylorcraft, you get to enjoy better performance at lower cost and higher cool factor.

Re: Taylorcraft Forum

Oh Mr. Ez - or should that be "Easy Mr. Ez?" :D

Technically speaking I believe the J-3 is the only rear seat solo.
We could argue the origin of the J-2. Seems the google people mix it in with Pipers.
But what does the internet know? #-o
BUT, the next of the "J" 'series' J-4 & J-5 are front seat solo, esp. the J-4.

I think we both need some sleep.

The J-4 haha!, they designed that so you could wear a "Top Hat" in the cockpit. Had one, that thing could haul a load, had a large cooler, two lawn chairs, and bags, a tent and sleeping bags at one time. My passenger was not small either. And did 65 MPH. Slow was an understatement. Funky airplane I don't care to ever own again, but at the time was fun.
