Teledyne LED taxi/landing lights

I don't remember seeing anything about these here. Anyone here have any thoughts on these? They say 1900 Lumens. Both lights the same. Don't remember the spread.

These?

They're great for recognition, pulse lights. Never used them at night, they're plenty bright tho.

Re: Teledyne LED taxi/landing lights

Have you looked at the Rigid LED lights Gary? They look great to me and I am thinking of them for the 180.
No experience with the Teledynes. Sorry.

Re: Teledyne LED taxi/landing lights

I installed this light as the taxi light. I leave it on all of the time as a recognition light. I have been very happy with it. It is plenty bright a night to be able to see. The color of the light is more of a blue color compared to the standard GE bulb. I have had many people remark how bright the light is and how well they can see the plane during the day. In my opinion it is well worth doing given ease of installation and price.

Re: Teledyne LED taxi/landing lights

I had the alphabeam in my last plane and loved it. Bright, worked well for taxi, takeoff and landing. Left it on a lot.

Once in a while Spruce will run a special for $189 and thats what I paid-

Re: Teledyne LED taxi/landing lights

I love the Rigid lights too, also on my truck.

I've found no evidence of aviation lights at their site nor any bulbs made by them that would fit in a standard PAR ring mount, anyone?

It would be fun to see a scientific comparison between the Alphabeams and Aeroleds

Re: Teledyne LED taxi/landing lights

I have seen the Grote but they are claiming 900 lumens. Whelen 2000, Teledyne 1900. I forget what AeroLEDs are, but something in that area. I guess there are different ways of measuring lumens, always some kind of crap like that. But, I would think spread and lumens are the best we got to go on. I'm sure they all last a long time, are low heat/energy draw.

Haha. Possibly. But I'm ginna give them a try. I'll let you know what I think if them. I've had great luck with Rigid ones on my pickup, and they are very bright, so I'm sure willing to give them a try on my plane. Besides, if they do the bbqing for me, thats one less thing I have to do! :P

Re: Teledyne LED taxi/landing lights

I'm not 100% sure Gary. They are PAR 36 direct replacement, and say nothing about experimental. Usually if its for experimental only, Spruce specifies on the page. I'll have to give them a call tomorrow and find out for sure though.

Re: Teledyne LED taxi/landing lights

I don't think that they are for certifed A/C, however this article that just I just saw on avwebhttp://www.avweb.com/blogs/insider/AVWebInsider_FAACounterSafety_203196-1.html seems to question whether they even need to be certified.

Have you seen anything on the spread/field of view on the rigid lights?
The Teledynes are 45* x 10*. Seems like if you got two and mounted one vertically and one horizontally that would be pretty visible to others???

Re: Teledyne LED taxi/landing lights

Nevermind, I checked. I guess I look at it this way. Teledyne says > 5000hrs life, and 1900 lumens. 45 watts. Rigid is 25000hr life, 3400 lumens, and 40 watts. The rigid is also cheaper. Maybe rigid is just grabbing me with flashy numbers and marketing, but for me its an easy decision...
