Re: The last video of N222TF

I’m betting the fuselage isn’t bent much if any. Engine should be good. Wings are likely in rough shape, but…..

Assuming it’s insured, either let them total it and buy the wreck back from them, or argue to rebuild.

I’d look really hard at buying new wings from Maule, repairing the fuselage and recover, do the firewall fwd stuff, tail feathers and you’ll have a like new plane.

Sorry for your loss, that really does suck. But, I’d rebuild that if there’s a shop around that’s willing. Too great an airplane to send to the scrap heap.

We’ll crap, that sucks. Hope it was insured. But it looks pretty easily fixable to me.

Re: The last video of N222TF

That's a major bummer.... and I'm sure it really hurts right now.

But hey, it's a Maule.... Take the wings off, strip the fabric, everything can be fixed with tubing and a mig or tig welder.
Let the boys in George put your wings in a jig.... straighten them out.
It'll all go back together as good as new.

You 'll be flying that plane you love so much once again...!!

Re: The last video of N222TF

I am guessing by the post name that the airplane is under-insured. I know mine is. Anyway - I am sorry to hear this story. Totally sucks,

Ugh just devastating. I've been through a similar ordeal but ended up with a new recover and paint. Hope you stick with the Maule.

That sucks, Rich. Really heartbreaking.

The video was a really sincere tribute though. Nicely done.

Re: The last video of N222TF

Sorry mister. I hope you’ve got an awesome insurer that will help you chart a quality rebuild and a fast return to flying. What you won’t be able to replace is the lost season.

Re: The last video of N222TF

Someone will rebuild that plane. You can call the insurance and ask for 70 % of insured value and the plane then fix it yourself or take total coverage and get another plane. In the end I would say just get another plane. That way you are back in the air sooner. HOWEVER, if you do have friends/skills/time. I don't think it would be a hard rebuild, depending on wing conditions. DENNY

Re: The last video of N222TF

Sorry for your loss. My own tie downs are rated 500lb strength but PoH recommends 600lb. I've added ropes during a storm while I wait outside. I think you just inspired me to purchase heavier protection.

Also, the used market is starting to soften. If ya can't get back in a Maule, have you considered a Stinson?

Re: The last video of N222TF

High winds & Heavy seas require more tiedowns, 3 is not enough (not chains or cables, I like 3/8" line)

Re: The last video of N222TF

Doggonit Rich, that hurt to watch. It would seem fitting if only ramp queens got damaged in storms like that, but such is not the case. Your bird had a good life with you, and hopefully will get the necessary surgery to fly again - either with you in the PIC seat, or someone else with your love of flying and respect for the plane. I've now switched to spliced 3/8" Dynema line (19,600 lb tensile strength) for my tiedowns. I use these even when the airport provides their own ropes on tiedown points.

Re: The last video of N222TF

Rich, saw the video last night. Hurt my heart to see it....was weird giving a thumbs up on YouTube. My 10yr old son said he felt really sorry for you and your airplane. I hope to either see her rebuilt or replaced soon.
