Vetterman's is a great outfit as well. As noted, a very high percentage of the RV exhausts are made by them. And, they're really good people....

Whether they'll design an exhaust for your airplane would be the question I'd ask. That's likely the advantage of Power Flow.

Just FYI - Acorn is a great product. Installed new STC'd system in my 185 in 2007. No issues since with either the muffler or risers.

I THINK Acorn is a repair shop, as opposed to a manufacturer. That said, I’ve had them “repair” a piece of an exhaust system, and the “repaired” part came back new, with one little bit of the original attached.

Acorn manufactures new product. Darn nice stuff that lined up exactly with no fuss. No core charge or items given to them for repair, they just took my money and sold me these new mufflers a couple weeks ago and shipped them to me in CA. Got a $0.00 invoice from FedEx about a week later saying no duties or taxes were due. Sweet!

They even sell brand new shrouds and shroud spacers. I'm really impressed with their products.

Vetterman exhaust as a company has been providing fantastic service to the Bearhawk community for over a decade now.
They stand behind their product, but quality control issues are unheard of. When guys need help, they are always there.
I could not recommend them highly enough.

Yes, Doug Mueller owns the STC for the tailpipe extensions.

They have a number of advantages.

- lower cowling removal and replacement is 1000% easier
- no more exhaust streaks to clean
- reduced possibility of CO in the cabin
- sounds great
- lower cowling more streamlined with no tailpipe holes.
- more power from improved exhaust scavenging

John D Benham was one of the 170 Assn founding fathers,
he had an IO360 Continental powered A model.
Guess he had the swept exhaust on it.
By the time I came along (1997), Pat Bartone was selling them & everyone called them the Bartone exhaust.
Great that Mueller has an STC, I kinda recall that they used to be a field approval.

Yeah, Doug spent a bunch of cash (tens of thousands of dollars) to correct all the paperwork problems with the FAA. The reason I never bought them before is because the STC was incomplete. Not any more!

Here are some more shots with the cowling installed to show how the pipes fit with plenty of clearance to the gascolator and other dangly bits.

Unsolicited advice: ditch that glass gascolator yesterday already, give Brian at Steve’s aircraft some of your hard earned money and replace that anachronism with a bit of billet bling.

Same here, I prefer the glass so I can actually see if i'm getting water or any other issues, if the billet had a sight glass I might switch at that point.

Ummm, if you sump the drain with a clear tube/tester, won’t you kinda get a view of water? If you do, you drain till you don’t get water.

In my opinion, assuming you’ll be able to actually see water in that gascolator, up inside the cowl may be a false assumption.

What am I missing? Do you actually stick your head up inside there, with a flashlight, to inspect for water?
