Thursday tour of the Central Cascades

Had a nice afternoon in the Central Cascades 8-4-16. Harvey to Bandera, Easton, Tieton (where GoPro battery died) then on to Vaughn Ranch. Passed on Ranger Creek since I would have had to fly downwind of Mt. Ranier with the wind coming up to get there.

DA's were getting up there at Easton and Tieton.

Here is a long'ish video of the tour.

Very nice, like the music. Good motivation for me to get to working on the Patrol. I'm sure I will be looking for those strips someday.

A great tour Tom. Holler if you want company sometime. I really like Tieton! You couldn't go wrong going in any direction the past week or so. When it's good here, it's VERY good.

Thanks for the tour. Here's a little history of the Washington State emergency landing strips.

Good to see that the water's nice and high!
I was there once, several years ago, and the water level was way down.
We wanted to walk down to the water, but once we got past the grass it was all mud--
sticky, gummy, clay-like mud. Ugh!
Not much fun.

Re: Thursday tour of the Central Cascades

Great pics.

As you know they drain Rimrock every fall. Two nice side effects are white water rafting on the Tieton River when the dam is open and great motorcycle riding on the dry (but rocky) lakebed. They even have a motocross race there.

Re: Thursday tour of the Central Cascades

I don't recall the time of year that I was there, but there sure wasn't any "dry (but rocky) lakebed"-- just mud!

Re: Thursday tour of the Central Cascades

The race, IIRC, is in October or November. There is always some lake there, and some mud flats for sure. The race area and where I like to ride is towards the far end of the lake towards White Pass and on the same side as Highway 12.
