I would be willing to bet there are lot of folks that have done this.

I think most folks just stop and use those round handels in the back to turn the plane. Do you have to tell the feds about taxi (not yellow cab) accidents?

Have you considered a turbine (not a head towel).

Thankfully the Feds called it an "occurrence". No NTSB, no accident or incident report. Old engine is coming off...

Well, Dang.
First I heard about it was today, Kevin. Sorry to hear the news... you know I've got my own humble pie, eh?
You'll be goin' again soon! Your deadline for the Susanville AirFair is Aug. 18th; I'll come for you all in the 170 if need be!

Reviving an old thread...
Kevin, and what engine did you end up with?
A friend of mine bought an O550-powered 180 not long ago,
he told me it was done on a field-approval based on the Ponk 470-50 STC.
I googled it, Ponk doesnt list an O550 conversion on his website.
Texas Skyways offers an O550 but looks like theyre the only one?
I do see that Air Plains & maybe others offer an IO550.

I was thinking about what you'd have for power if you did a low compression o 550. I think I saw where there are some 7.5 compression pistons that go in a turbo'd 550. That should be a low stress engine for long life and could use car gas.
