Re: UPDATED OCT 1st -Nor Cal / Sierra Fly-in - October

Can I get a head count on who is coming. Please send me a PM or call me.

Weather is looking good for weeks end! The storm will be gone by Thursday and all signs point to an excellent weekend of weather with light winds and blue skies!

Just really need a head count PLEASE. We should plan for camping at our dry lake bed 3 shot gun shells and a pair of shoes on Saturday night with a big white mans fire! We can cook over the fire that night, (I have a big grate). As for Friday night if anyone shows, we can use the glider port with the fire pit and camp ground on site. Will hit the North circuit on Saturday morning with an afternoon regroup and then off to our Saturday night camp sight. I hope to see you!

Its going to be a good time!

Re: UPDATED OCT 1st -Nor Cal / Sierra Fly-in - October

I voted for #3 :(

But, can't wait for the trip report with pics! 8-[ Have fun and hope you all get back safely!

Oh...... no worries. I'm going to have fun myself! Taking the Yamaha Rhino out to the Owyhee's to do some exploring. You know me, I'll take plenty of pics! If anybody is out flying in that area, I'll be around the Three Fingers Rocks and in that whole area to the north. I will carry my portable Nav/Com with me. If I see somebody circling around I'll tune into 122.8 (I believe that's the freq. for Owyhee State Airport).

Re: UPDATED OCT 8/9 Nor Cal Fly-in

I am heading from S. CA to SE Wa and if possible will try to get out on Friday to meet up with all of you in N. CA. Is the Fri night spot KTRK ? if not where? Sounds like a great opportunity to meet some of you and have a great time.

Re: UPDATED OCT 8/9 Nor Cal Fly-in

Details:

Friday night we will camp at the glider port here in KTRK.

Saturday morning: EAA pancake breakfast 730am
We will have a debrief for the north circuit at 830am (sharp if your flying in) in front of the EAA building. Plan for 30-35 gallons of fuel (thats me burning 14 an hour). We can always re-fuel close by and we are going to the bigger, wider, etc., places first.
Temps are getting much cooler and daylight a bit later I figure an easy start on Saturday is good.

Saturday afternoon/night: We will regroup in Truckee, gather our gear and refuel. We will then fly 20 minutes South East to our Saturday Night camp site.

Sunday morning: Early AM sunrise launch to fly south circuit. We can stop in Minden or Bridgeport Sunday morning for breakfast. After the days flying events we will re group and gather your own camp gear...and fly home.

Have some buds with lower power rides that probably aren't in for the area work but would like to make the campout sat night - what's the elevation of the LZ?

Re: UPDATED OCT 8/9 Nor Cal Fly-in

Saturday night elevation is 4800' or so. Lots of room and great for Nose wheels. Its a very hard surface.

I will come up with a lat/long for it. Anyone have this by chance in their GPS...Rob or Harry maybe? Its faily easy to find and only 10 minutes for KCXP (Carson)

Looking at a Sectional, its very close to the RYANN intersection on V564 (maybe 1/4 west). Look for it 6 miles east of Dayton here:

I have the coordinates for the lake bed in my gps for anyone who wants them. Or look on my airport map below, click on the dry lake bed at the bottom.

Re: UPDATED OCT 8/9 Nor Cal Fly-in

No Sooner do you get plans set and there are changes. 1 of the pilots has decided to not make the flight, 2nd pilot is having engine trouble and will be having things checked out on Thursday and if all is ok will continue other wise they are out. 3rd pilot is dependent upon #2 going to determine if they are going. So we are back to 1 for sure (ME) and 2 possibles?

Re: UPDATED OCT 8/9 Nor Cal Fly-in

I'm in!!! We will fly in Saturday morning.
I will have my wife and Kellie "The World's Craziest Labrador Retriever".
After listening to me babble about what a great time I had at Kevin's September Fly-in, and the great places I got to fly with Skytruk (thanks again!), my wife asked if she could come along this time. Who could say "no" to that? I'm not sure if we can make it into many/any of the strips on the North Circuit in the Mighty Wheel-Pantied Skychicken, but I look forward to following everyone around, watching, listening, and learning!!!

Kevin -
Can we drop our camping gear at your hangar for the day on Saturday?
We will be in Truckee by 7:30AM.
