What are the best C182 sites?

I've just purchased a C182 with a Texas Skyways 0-520 and will be putting it on floats (Aerocet 3500's, seaplanes west kit on the way) in the spring. I'm currently a Maule owner (for sale) and so I'm trying to re-educate myself with Cessna. What are the best web sites out there to find information on Cessna's, particularly the 182's. Looking for STC's / mod ideas, genral discussion forums, etc.

I'm also looking for performance data on floats.

thanks for your help.

There's some pretty good 182 guys right here on BCP. There's also a lot of great info spread around this forum too.

Re: What are the best C182 sites?

I have a 1975 182P. I have Sportsman's STOL kit and Wing-X wing extensions that I have had added (Stene). It has green (zinc chromate) throughout from the factory and original skylites. Other than that it is stock.
I would do the wing mods again in a heartbeat. Amazing difference. And all for the good. Actually makes it into a whole different airplane, especially at lower speeds. =D>
I consider it-and bought it (wing mods)-as a "safety investment". If the motor quits-I hit the trees (or whatever) a whole LOT slower. But, it is WAY more than that...... Look into it.

I know. I'll take crap for the 'better slow speed handling' and all. Yeah, yeah, training wheels and all that......

www.cessna.org

I have a 182 1973 , and yes the sportsman STOL too , and yes makes it into a different plane, I installed mine about and love the plane for the slow handling too, easier for everything, lots more fun to fly.
Would have put wing extensions but our windy season is kind of nasty , and there must be a bit of aileron authoity loss with the extensions.

Also some narrow strips with trees on both sides.

my 182 is a 1973 model.......personally I dont care for CPA and will not be renewing my membership...they dont seem very user friendly to me....have a request for technical assistance that is going on 3 months with no response....one exchange was "buy a parts manual I dont have time to look up part numbers"

Re: What are the best C182 sites?

great information and thanks.

I spoke with an AME today, and he made the same comments regarding wing extensions and the STOL kit. He did say, if you only do one, he recommended the wing extensions due to more performance. He gave me a rough price of $8500 for the wing X and $6000 for the Sportsman STOL installed.

I don't know about the wing X but $6000 seems like way too much for the Sportsman STOL install. Usually it's closer to 4 from what I've heard (including the price of the kit).

Re: What are the best C182 sites?

Simple. Call Will at Stene aviation. He would be happy to give you solid numbers for the kit/shipping and estimates in hours for the install. On youtube (I believe it is) they have a video of the Sportsman kit install so you can get a feel for the install on the kit. It is sped up (FF) so it doesn't put you to sleep if it is the one I saw.

Good luck,
lc

PS adnl. note: I just checked youtube, it is still there.

$6000 was total - $2K for the kit and $4K for the labor.

I emailed Steve and he answered all my questions - you guys were right - he's a good guy.

I know, still seems high. I've heard 4K total.... 2k for kit plus 2k install. I even found a place that will install it for around 1K.

Re: What are the best C182 sites?

For float flying if I had to choose one or the other I would go with the extensions. They make a huge performance difference at the lower angles of attack you have for float take offs. I would say here and SC.org have as much 182 info as any. The "cessna" sites aren't very active, and don't deal much with offroader (offwater) planes.
