What’s on your BCP feature wishlist?

I’ve got a team working on the next version of BCP. I know I have said this for years, threatening to update, but this time it’s real.

What would you like to see changed or be added here that would make BCP a more useful and fun resource?

Here’s my personal list:

1. Native mobile app. I think in 2026 this is the primary focus
2. Ability to “like” any kind of post or reply
3. Easy photo and video posting in a post or reply, which also adds the content to you personal library at time of upload for later use.
4. OS-level Emoji support
5. Better navigation to our knowledge base resources
6. A true instant chat/PM layer
7. Subscriptions and push notifications
8. A new, more modern forum user experience that doesn’t rely on BBcode and generally makes posting and formatting content much easier.

Some good ones there, Thanks!
Only thing I'd add is maybe a map? I'd be happy to put my dot on a map so if folks have questions or might need a ride or wrench if they had a mechanical out adventuring in my stretch of woods.

A "way back" machine that recreates the "good ol' days" when there were a lot more trip reports and videos of actual back-country flying. It seems the actual practitioners of this type of flying keep leaving BCP to set up their own channels where they can monetize their activity. I miss what drew me to this website in the beginning. No technical or interface upgrade can replace that...That said, the updates you are proposing will be nice.

Haha, well yeah. Not much to be done about that aside from improve the tech to make it easier to create said trip reports.

It is an unfortunate phenomenon of this strange point in history that people want to have their own brand and get attention rather than seek camaraderie. I truly want to keep BCP as a place to come together, share and store resources and knowledge...uncontaminated by the algorithm.

Re: What’s on your BCP feature wishlist?

Maybe I am missing this setting already but it would be nice to click on threads and have it take you to your last read post. I know there is a button at the top that facilitates this but it happens automatically on other forums. Does this exist and I am missing it? The liking of post I think is nice and drives some engagement as well.

I use google to find most info in this forum, it also seems to be one of the top hits for most of my questions regardless.

It's your baby Zzz, we are all standing on your shoulders. I'll be cool with whatever path YOU decide.

I think you've addressed this as being a challenge previously, but because I'm an Apple using dufus I'd really like to no longer receive the "invalid token" error when trying to login via mobile Safari. A cleaner UI would be nice.

Good stuff. The cookie problems will be history as the platform is going to be a complete replacement with better session handling.

User-based “last read post” rather than just latest reply on a thread.

How do you all feel about threaded replies? How facebook does it, where a reply to a comment becomes a child, or nested?

Re: What’s on your BCP feature wishlist?

Zzz,

The features you propose in your OP all sound great. So does the most recent unread feature. A native app for both Android and Apple would be cool. I've been on Android forever, but may be changing in the next couple of years. One thing I wouldn't do is to nest the replies a la FB. That just drives me nuts. Folks here are pretty good about quoting and leaving breadcrumbs about what they're responding to, and I don't mind going through a thread to selecting the replies I want. Thanks very much for keeping the fires burning! I hope to contribute again once I get my plane back from the interior shop.

If I had one "ask" it would be that when I open a discussion it does so at the latest entry, not the very first page. All else is sooooo good there isn't anything I can't learn to work and live with what you have built is brilliant in my opinion Zzz.

I'm read-only here, but I think most of the features mentioned/requested here are covered by Disqus: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disqus

I'm part of a few forums that use it and it is quite nice.

Thanks, I’ll take this under consideration. Discourse is another good one.

That actually works now. Admittedly, it could be more obvious. The arrow button on the right side of the topic row takes you to the latest post of a thread.

1) a like button
2) the ability to post photos directly onto a post, instead of having to upload to my BCP gallery then copy n paste onto the post.

You can currently attach image files in a forum post, but it's still clunky. I'm going to build the best of both worlds that makes it a lot easier.
