Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

No pics but I flew my first flight in 77C since May 2007 today to break-in an overhaul. It was the stereotypical "annual from hell" that turned into a field overhaul among other things and took two years to straighten out due to a lot of problems, plus life got in the way a bit too. I did take advantage of downtime to add some upgrades though. Got new BAS harnesses and double-puck brakes among other things.

Just a slow orbit 5000 feet above Fairbanks International for 90 minutes, with a break midway to troubleshoot what turned out to be an easy fix to a slight oil mist on the windscreen  but for me it was heaven. Another hour or two of break-in this weekend then it is home, James. No more renting [-o<

~1250fpm climb at 75mph at 70F OAT at 2550rpm and a 60% cruise at 115 mph on a climb prop. Not bad for a 170.

Thought I would try Rob's idea of showing your flight. This was from this past weekend.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I did an experiment to see if you can overlay flight tracks from your GPS onto Google Maps, and sure enough, it works great. If you zoom in, you can see very fine details of the flight:

[googlemap]http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&oe=UTF8&num=200&msa=0&msid=116253357820088543090.00046a7946efbac59f5d6&ll=42.55308,-122.98645&spn=1.260475,1.84845&t=p&z=9[/googlemap]

Kinda overkill though for what we're doing here!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew from McKinley Park down to the Denali Highway and across to Paxson, landed at the strip there, and visited the lodge for a coke before returning. Climbed to 9500 for the trip back and flew direct INR over the mountains.

At Paxson:

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew formation with a local Cub and then out to Rabbit Dry Lake west of Silver Springs and landed; pretty quiet! After that I flew over Fort Churchill and then down toward Yerington, over to South Lake Tahoe for free BBQ at Mountain West FBO and then back to MEV...nice day of flying.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Madras, Powers, Agness, Steves Aircraft, Home to Troutdale.

I need to go back to Powers and explore the town. Agness was absolutely the best. Food 10, quad to ride, great accommodation, I will be back. You should go, you won't be disappointed!! Watch the strip it is tricky.

The visit at Steves Aircraft with some of the BCP guys was a real treat. There are some great guys on this site.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Rob,
Thanks for the trip update. My wife and I are looking forward to checking out those cabins. I figured you may not get back on line and see my post......kept checking your spot page to see if you had left Madras. I then got busy and the next time I checked you were already at Agness and my day had filled up :( . Hope we can get together next time.

Got out fairly early with the wife. This was the second choice of a flight. Some of us were going to try the beach but it wasn't meant to be, fog.

Good restaurant at Salem McNary field. Sat on the deck and enjoyed the picture perfect weather.

This was ok 3 grass strips, 3 paved. Morning flying the best, so smooth.

Cheers...Rob

Re: Where did you fly today?

Made a little time to go play on the Sixes River just before dark. Sorry for the poor quality as the pics are from my phone. On the Spot Page, Zoom in on track #3,4,6 in the satellite mode and you can see exactly where on New River I landed in the cow pasture and the gravel bar on Flores Creek.
