Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

I had another solar panel delivery to make, to a town about 75 miles away. When I offered to deliver it for no charge, I expected the usual disbelief and suspicion (what's the catch?), that's when I tell them they need to meet me at the airport or have a place to land on their property..... it turns out this customer flies a Long EZ, so I met him at his hangar, pretty handy for him and for me.Image Business concluded, it was now time to play a little on the gravel bars, this was a fun one. What's keeps them interesting is they change every day it seems, at least every week they for sure do as the water level fluctuates or debris appears or disappears.Image I decided I needed this chunk of driftwood for my landscaping around the shop, not as heavy as it looks as it was pretty dry, draggy though. Much over 80 mph flying home I needed a fair bit of left rudder.Image It looks better here then in the way on the narrow bar I retrieved it from. 8) Image

If I'm not mistaken that's not driftwood. That's a dog.

Up to Dearwater International (O79) from Carson City. A ten minute or so walk into Sierraville, and then GREAT breakfast at Sierraville Kitchen.

Awesome airport sign. They coulda picked a better airplane to put on there instead of a Glasair (like a red Mooney!), but otherwise real cool.
On second thought, maybe that Glasair was the airport namesake's airplane? #-o

Re: Where did you fly today?

I had to work on a Sunday morning, :( delivering another solar panel to a guy who in our first five minutes of talking on the phone, to a total stranger (me) agreed that it would be a fine idea for me to air deliver right to his door step the next morning, I can't believe how trusting people are, I must be a smooth talker! This has been an interesting last few days for external loads.ImageI was able to taxi right up to his shop, which was very interesting. He had a huge bandsaw, for cutting slabs out of trees, he does slab tables etc. and had a great setup, all right there at home, my kind of guy. Image Great setup, but he had a lousy view.Image Fully operational this '54 IH airport scissors lift truck is a classic, so ugly it's good looking.Image BTW: No BS about who did what and who knows about it from me, just flying porn! Bombing back into my strip I was listening to the blues channel on the Sirius, and it was an interview with BB King, along with a lot of music. While banked up at 45 degrees and burning off the altitude I need to clear the ridgeline when arriving home from the east he started talking about when he got his pilots ticket, uneducated and not real well known yet, he couldn't believe that others like him had their own aircraft and flew them. His flying blues buddies talked him into going for it, and he did and flew himself all around the country for over 10 years, until he started making so much money the bean counters and insurance pukes told him he needed a safety pilot, which he said made it a PITA so he hung it up. He had very fond memories of flying, though, and it really was one of the coolest "how I got into flying" stories I ever heard, then I landed just as he finished the story, perfect 8)
