Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

I spent some more time with adobe cleaning up the video I posted before. I thought this one turned out a bit better.

Funny someone posted the like the video but hate the music... what the hell kind of music am I supposed to put on a flying video?

edit: I re-uploaded the video in higher quality...

Any music you damn well please. If they don't like it, they can turn down the volume without having to bother the rest of us with their negativity.

Nice video. If it's too loud, then they're too old (and/or they should go make their own video if it would make them happier).

Music will always be the one subjective thing that someone can criticize, and there's always someone who will dislike your music. I've stopped putting music on my videos, because I realized how other people feel once I watched their videos with their shitty countrytonk music. :) I think the music with the most broad appeal is the hum of the engine and prop, unfortunately many cameras like the GoPro don't have the best audio quality and are easily blown out.

Yup!!! Know em all.

Hey George...

An old Yute Air buddy of mine just returned north, this time flying Sleds/Caravans for Era. Rod Barrows is his name, and he'll be at Aniak or St Mary's. Look him up if you're wandering that way.

True, sometimes I don't care for the music but I've found that more often than not, I hear something new and enjoyable. I like it when people credit the music so I can check out the artist in more depth. I like plain engine noise a lot as well, but the wind for outside mounted cameras can be annoying.

This is true about the outside microphones. A lot of people hook into the intercom. I especially like this on vids of IFR flights so I can hear the exchange between the pilot and ATC or even between the pilot and passengers.

Re: Where did you fly today?

A very early morning flight up The Little Lost to Challis, but I never made it all the way as it looked like something/weather was moving in, so I changed my "flight plan" :? The lower hang glider launch site near King Mt., 7+K. A good smooth steep launch site, the paraglider pilots like this site.Image A bit further north, Idaho's highest Peak Borah in the background, 12,665'. The infamous chickenout knife edge ridge is visible, this turns back many climbers as it truely is knife edge with such steep drops off on either side you better make sure you stay centered up. I climbed it a few years back and it was spooky as hell, I'll stick with flying.Image Wiley ranchs below, he has had a cub strip for years near the highway, I always give them a flyover when in the area. Only met him once but been saying hi from the air for 30 years now. Old timers and real ranchers, you can tell because the ranch house doesn't even face the killer view of Borah, they're too busy working to be looking out windows! You can see the funky weather starting off to the right, screw that, I was home by 9:30 and then the wind blew like a bastard all day so it worked out well.Image

Re: Where did you fly today?

Thanks for all the kind responses guys! I've only been flying less than a year so I still feel like a major newbie, and being young and not knowing many other pilots, I just can't be too sure what's considered cool in the flying world today! ;) But I figured I might as well at least try and share my videos... as for the music, I just try and pick more ambient stuff with less vocals, but obviously ya can't please every one. Honestly though, I didn't think the song I chose was THAT bad someone would have to tell me

Thanks again for watching!

Cheers

I agree it is great to hear the engine, but the GoPro audio is just too blown out. I'd love to figure out a way to record the intercom, like you said above would be great for IFR videos. I'm just learning and am sure as hell no A/V professional of any sorts.

It's because the sound of a sitar hurts a redneck's ears like a dog whistle, and they're suddenly overcome by visions of hippies and late 60's Beatles albums.
