Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

cool, how does it compare to the S-12? Is that going to replace it?

S-12 is long gone. Several years now. The S-6ES gone 2 years ago. And the S-7S just 2 months.

The adventure continues.

It definitely is NOT an S-7S.
While the Savage is a fun plane, faster with better climb, the fit and finish are not Rans quality.
Short tail S-7 specs so it is more "spirited" than the long tail S-7.
No falling asleep flying this one.
It will turn inside an S-7S all day long. It has long legs and will out run my 7.
It is no where near as comfortable as my old S-7 and I just about have to fold myself in half to get in and out of her.
My S-7 also had Oregon-Aero seats. The Cub will get them soon.
The Savage seems to have a bit better visibility due to a smaller cowl.
Wing feels about the same and stalls are identical with VG's.
Wing loading is lighter so it is a bit bumpier but not uncomfortably so.
No Spades so more stick force needed but not bad.
Only has a single door so the throttle and flaps are in a much better position.
Cub style gear legs are an improvement over the stock S-7 legs but not as wide.
Only real complaint, it is WAY more squirrelly on the ground. Shorter, narrower stance makes life interesting on the ground.
Happy feet , happy feet.
I only have the 6 hours it took to fly it here from Emmett to judge it by.
And most of that was straight level cruising.
OK, not quite so straight and level but very limited "play" flight.
I did drop into one of the local BC strips that I passed over and it did an excellent job in and out.
IMO, the Savage is not a good first taildragger but with some stick time it will make for a very fun aircraft.

Re: Where did you fly today?

One more item on the Savage.
I would be sorely remiss if I didn't give a lot of thanks to Bob. (SpamCanFlyer).
He is a stand up guy and went to great lengths to point out any and all squawks with the Cub. And he had excellent documentation to address each one.
He included a lot of extras that were not listed and he made sure I was completely satisfied before he would take a penny.
He spent a lot of time going over the aircraft before he let me leave. AND he put a full tank of gas in her.
You hear so many stories of shady deals but this one was handled with a great deal of professionalism.
Thanks Bob!

ATXCubDriver and I did some more exploring today. Landed a number of places including the very south end of SuperCub island (currently not an island due to the drought) on Lake Buchanan.

Got to play with this little dream yesterday. 230 hp, 220 mph. Not backcountry, but...

So. Much. Fun.

Re: Where did you fly today?

The weather cleared up enough yesterday to go have some fun on the west circuit.

Landing this nice grassy spot for the first time.

The water is on the rise here after all the recent rain.

There's still a few nice gravel bars to land on.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Some of you may recall that I purchased a Drift camera for my trip down from Alaska. Well I never took it out of the box - until yesterday. ATXCubDriver shot a video from his plane following me around and that got me inspired. It was easier to mount then I expected and even easier to use. I can see a few more sections I could have edited out and I wish I could get rid of the wind noise. But. Here it is. Touch and Goes - SQ-2 style.
