Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

It was an absolute blast to fly. I was in the right seat and got a bruise on my shin from the oil cap I'm considering a trophy :-D

Wonder if the Bearhawk was Dan Schillings. He runs one up there painted up yellow and blue like the Alaska flag I believe. He runs a big 6 cylinder Subaru in his.

Lovin this Cam. I was preparing to post about a flight around the Knik and Lake George Glaciers. Seems small compare to the days you keep having with a variety of bucket list airplanes.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I made a routine flight to Portland to see mom and didn't land anywhere notable, but did see some cool patterns from the air.

this is a hedge maze near Centralia, WA

This is a project to restore salmon egg laying habitat on Hood Canal

and these are the Mima Mounds just outside of Olympia, WA. These things are weird. I keep expecting some kind of mean alien to pop out of them.

I need to get permission to land here. This is Leisureland airpark in Bremerton, WA

Re: Where did you fly today?

Cam, it was one of the coolest things I've ever experienced in my plane. I intended to go shoot some film around some rock formations in this valley but when I got there it was obscured by a solid layer. I was initially bummed out, until I saw this perch sticking out at about 8,500 MSL. Took me a few passes to work up the courage (I was alone, and a long ways from anywhere), but the experience was well worth it.

To be honest, once I got on the ground I was so overwhelmed by what I was experiencing that I only managed to take a few cell phone pics. As soon as I got back home, I had all kinds of ideas about what kind of panoramic shots I could have made, etc., but in the moment, I was so dazzled I could barely operate my phone camera!

Here's a quick video snippet that gives you some idea what it looked like.

The smile pretty much sums it up I would say. I love that feeling when landing a new spot. Looks like that one was extra special, however!!!

Re: Where did you fly today?

RP, that fog ined area looks oddly familiar to me. That the area I landed last year, that you were familiar with, about 30 or 40 miles from your area, that had that cool looking butte down below? No fog when I was there, I can imagine how bizarre that was, very cool. =D>

Somewhat locally for me, a couple days ago, another instance of looking down and going, "I can't believe I never landed that before." Familiar, very familiar country, just now noticed it, that kinda bare spot in the middle, not the close in one and not the one in the background. Parking spot right between the two trees.

Part of training adaptability is allowing us to fly a bunch of different aircraft. In other words, I got lucky as hell!
