Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Nice pic and good film.

It was also filmed up here in Ephrata, WA. I think I've been to both airports sometime. Fun to see.

Re: Where did you fly today?

A local high school grad called me up and asked if he could go for a ride. Wants to attend UND and go the airline route. Think he had fun! Sky is kinda' orangy smoky from western fires. Sorry about all the bugs on the glass...

Re: Where did you fly today?

I was in West Yellowstone last week, and since I had my new "senior" life time free national parks pass (which only cost $15.00!) I realized that I may as well fly over Yellowstone AND Grand Teton Park on the way home, as it now wouldn't cost me the usual entry fees. :P

Flying over Yellowstone the other day, I happened to catch Old Faithful blowing it's top.

Image

Right about at the junction of YS and GT parks, all these good looking gravel bars down there above Jackson Lake going to waste, what a shame I couldn't get down there and play, 2,000 agl min alt. and I stayed well above that in order to keep above the Jackson CT class D coming up. Rare to have any haze these parts but the recent heat wave seemed to make it that way.
Image

Then, well south of Jackson and at 9K over the river canyon below and just starting to hang a right towards Alpine, 2 airplanes appeared. In tight formation, they passed under me and off to one side, my left, with about 2 or 300' clearance. I recognized one by it's distinctive paint job, (and sound, I could hear it pretty well) Jackson local STOL in his hotrod V-8 powered Zenith 801! It was pretty damn cool, too bad I didn't try the com radio and couldn't get to my cell phone in time to say good morning. I'm not sure if they saw me, I'll ask Ben next time we talk.

Then a high up bathroom break, and home again soon there after. For those that have not flown that route, try it, you'll like it. Going the other direction works pretty well also.Image

Re: Where did you fly today?

Ok so its not a where I flew today, but more where i flew a fortnight ago...

But all the same, theres nothing like when your 86 year old grandma says in the middle of winter, "so, take me for a ride in this drifter thing of yours, and while your at it, lets see how close we can can get to these waves......"

Apparently 2 feet wasnt close enough....

great pictures as usual... but on the senior pass.... that is by far the best deal I"ve come across in a long time... free entry to National parks and forest areas with that pass for everyone in your car... can't beat it....

Not sure if I said it or not, but I checked out the pics in the other threads, and that is one good looking bird! Congrats Cam! How bout a pic of the panel/interior?

The smile on your face pretty much sums up the feeling flying your own bird. Happy for you!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Great stuff, Piperpainter.

Tieton/Rimrock is one of my favorite local places to visit.

I bet DA was an issue, even early in the day. It's been well over 100 every day for the past week or more on my side of the mountains.

Last time I was there in the Maule, the strip was not what I would consider smooth. Not bad but a little bumpy. How was it in the Mooney?

Also, in case anyone needs to know in the future, go-around is to turn to the RIGHT.

A couple of years ago I went there with a friend piloting and he needed to go around and we turned left.

Do-able but stressful.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Yes a lovely spot. I was there last fall and the top end was a little rough. I probably went too high but there is no more useless runway than whats behind you:)

The strip was pretty good..not smooth but not rough. It's no JC!

It was surely hot, but the water was great for swimming!
