Flew up to Santa Barbara last evening for a wedding today. Forgot the camera... Fantastic weather and the coastal fog cleared at 10 this AM. Hope it's the same tomorrow for the 2hour flight home. Freeways below yesterday were clogged and it always brings a smile to your face as you trudge on to your destination at over 140 MPH... (we had a tail wind) \:D/

Rob, that is so cool! But I was expecting a picture of a DONKEY that wandered over to the plane! I suppose that may be a little too north and west for wild burros? :)

Since i am visiting washington...

Went up to harvey field in snohomish and rented a champ. Did i couple laps around the pattern then went over to whidbey island and did a few landings at W10. After that i headed back east and went to S86. I didnt land because it looked a bit tight with the trees.(or i am a wuss)

I think the Champ flys a bit different then the j-3 i rent. Seems like the stall is a bit more abrupt..(at least thats going to be my excuse for "dropping it in" that one time!) oh and it had Cleveland's. hold crap they actually work!

Hi all, today I flew down from Minden to Lee Vining, cruised low over Mono Lake, did a circle over Bodie CA, landed at Bridgeport and had lunch there and flew on home to Minden. 2.1 hrs of low altitude fun!

At Lee Vining the town is a 10 minute walk from the airport with restaurants, motels, etc. There is a Mobil station closer than that with a great deli inside. Mono Lake is really interesting from low level. I flew around it with full flaps and door open at 500 agl. The colors are amazing. On the larger island there were what appeared to be concrete bunkers, but my pic of them didn't come out. The ghost town of Bodie is worth going out of your way off Hwy 395 to visit. It's a state park and tours/info are available. Looks like you could land on the dirt road? Bridgeport is always a good stop with numerous restaurants a short walk from the airfield. BUT, not all are open year round.

Your picture of Mono lake reminded me of something. One of the old cub drivers around here talked about landing on that island on Mono lake once. He said they had no idea the mud was that deep. The passenger had to get out and push while he jockeyed the throttle to get the wheels rolling. Then the passenger (who was no small dude) jumped in and was still trying to pull his legs in the door when they got airborne. "Don't land there" was his end to the story.

Well flew up to LaGrande Friday, 1.0 on the tach. Smashed a bug at 9500 feet? Flew back today 8500, 1.1 on the tach, a bit of site seeing on the way back. Clear and smooth, love those days.
