Departed Colorado Springs and flew up Ute pass over Woodland Park. Headed South behind Pike's Peak and over Cripple Creek. Overflew the Royal Gorge and then over Canyon City. Tucked it up close to Cheyenne Mountain to stay out of Ft Carson restricted area followed by a landing back at Colorado Springs. Too bad the aspens wern't changing colors yet.

He started with a peltor muff and then used a dave clark, but the last few trips he takes his dave clark off mid flight. I don't mind. The c-145 is not that loud. I think the noise lulls him to sleep. He needed a nap that day.

I just got back from my weekly Sunday breakfast with our group of tail draggers. At 2500 ft AGL I was showing 175 mph ground speed with the 31 inch bushwheels!! I have been past 200 a couple of times, but always at altitude.

From the restaurant and because of the winds, I took off from a patch of grass 45'ing into the cross wind toward the runway. At my lift off point and beside the runway was a dead deer with a deep cut across it's back (prop???). My question, could a plane hit and kill a deer like that and keep going? No one was talking about any incidents at the restaurant. jg

McKinzie Bridge 00S

A small group of us met at 00S McKinzie Bridge Oregon. Just a great time. Weather and fellow BCP were great.

We shot clay birds with the 12 ga. Killed some cans with the 22mag, 9mm, 357 mag. Right next to our planes.

Good Photos Rob;
Sorry I missed you on Sat, didn't get in there until 7 PM or so. Zane and Alex and jr. cubbuilder and Christen were living the good life.
I return Sun AM with the morning paper and an Almond Joy bar for Zane
but, you all had gone by 9:30 AM. We stayed until 11:30 or so when a
Forest Service helo (107) came in to do standby duty. I even traded my crudy old hat for a McKenzie River Forest Service Fire hat . Tom

It was nice seeing you again. I can't believe you actually brought me an almond joy...haha. You're a great guy. We probably took off about 9:15a so must have barely missed you. Next time. It was a smokey flight home.

Sorry I missed the outing.

Didn't get to do any flying this weekend and super bummed. :( I committed to a carpool to banks lake. It was perfect flying weather and the winds mostly calm except during the few times of the day I shouldn't be in the air anyway.

Even though it's a paved runway, the Electric city field would make a great destination for a fly-in. Gorgeous setting. Good swimming. Bass and Walleye fishing. Climbing nearby.

Went for a friday-night date with my wife to Cedar Mills, nice grass strip. Great restaurant about 1/4 mile walk from the strip. No lights though, so try to take off BEFORE it gets too dark and the sprinklers start running

Not speaking from personal experience of course

Just returned from relocating the Stinson from the east coast to west coast. Picked it up in NC, outran hurricane Hannah to NJ. Stuffed it into a hangar and waited for the storm to roll past. Left NJ with my father and only made it to Indiana before another line of weather stopped us there for the night. Next day made it to Boone, IA (dad's hometown), where we stopped to visit with family and ended up getting weathered in for three days. Finally escaped the low ceilings there and made it to Rawlins, WY on the next day. Last day of flying was from Rawlins to the new homefield at Grass Valley, CA.

Fun trip despite the weather and the deviations we had to forego to make up lost time. Highlights were hopping rides for extended family off the grass strip at Boone, the ferocious gusty winds at Torrington, and stopping at Delle, UT for pump gas and a hot dog. Took lots of good pics too...

Hey Vick...that's great you got your bird out here finally. Hope to see you maybe next spring or summer....or this winter for some knee-droppin hippy skiing.

Flew to a field near FT Yates ND this morning shot a couple of Grouse and back to Bismarck to work. What a great day for a Maule!

Moose spotting

Did a little moose spotting on Sat, found 5 bulls and 7 cows, still lots of leaves on the trees so hard to spot. Fairly heavy wind so made for some funny ovals to make a pass on the moose.
I don't like to make tight circles when I drop down to look at one so I make a big loop and then make a straight pass to look. with this much wind if you get below the tops of the cottonwoods things can get sort of goofy on ya
I just don't like an un trustworthy wind, it will die out on you just when you are counting on it and drop you in the bushes.

I made a short flight today for the Malheur County Sheriff. I flew a deputy over to a place about 40 miles distand to try to locate a way into a patch of illegal wacky weed. They needed to get a vehicle in there to collect the stuff and haul it away. They also needed to take some air to ground pictures. Bob

Bob,
Of course you know I was just kidding you. I went hunting again today. I missed a couple of shots at partridge. Those little buggers are hard to hit. I need some practice. It has been a beautiful week here in North Dakota.

It looks good in the picture, and it has been nice here as well.
We have a bird called a Chukar out in OR. that hunters like to shoot. I have a video where they were running right down the runway. I was landing at the Owyhee Res. State Airport at the time, I have a video of it on youtube. Bob.
