Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Wednesday morning I flew from Braden's (N43) in PA to Mt. Snow (4V8) in Vermont. It was about an hour and 47 minute ride at 5,500 ft. Mt. Snow airport is apparently little used. I landed on 1 and was glad to have a high wing so the 3 and 4 ft weeds growing up through the pavement missed!

After dropping my friend off, I back taxied down 19 over a tough set of "speed bumps" thinking all the while "This is going to hurt taking off!". Sure enough, the take off roll was a delight!

But to compensate the weather was gorgeous! After climbing to 6,500 I was able to trim up and fly hands off for almost an hour. Just made minor course corrections with the rudder. A thoroughly enjoyable day!

Did some more hunting with the boys yesterday. September is why we live in North Dakota.

This morning it was "up early" to fly to Turtle Lake ND for a fly-in breakfast with my wife and my business partners' two sons. Turtle Lake has a nice grass strip.

My wife is always game for adventure. I'm thankful for her.

Mark, You are very fortunate that Kitty likes to go on flying adventures with you, some pilots wives don't.

Just around the local area this weekend (3.5 TT), but took a friend's 13 year old son up around the wildlife refuge, over the big lake and across the Ft Sill impact area. Then he got to photograph his house. I even let him drive a little.

Never had more than about 4-5 miles visibility in haze, so my planned trip to 3T0 was a no-go. Could have made the flight, but I was wanting to fly low and slow with good visibility. Oh well.

Next weekend we have TWO count 'em TWO flyins next weekend and one of them has a grass runway!

Mark,

Sorry I missed you today. I was probably still at home. But your suppose to buzz my place when your up here. I guess you did have passengers.

Did I say Buzz? I meant fly low and do a touch and go, or stop.

See you in Bismarck Thursday, for lunch?

I took in the Fall Colors Tour up in Northern MN. Left Park Raipds at 7:30AM then to Grand Rapids to meet up with a buddy for an EAA pancake breakfast. From there we flew to Two Harbors on the edge of Lake Superior. Met up with over 30 other planes to fly along the coast then to Ely, MN. Then they stopped at a couple of other smaller strips before heading to a private strip near Side Lake, MN for food fun, and beer.

Saw the beautiful Superior shoreline and then all the fall colors when we headed back inland. I wonder what all those people on the beaches thought of a several miles long gaggle of planes? Had to be quiet a sight! It was mostly SuperCubs, a couple of Champs,Scouts, and Stinsons, a 185 ot two, a Cruiser and me flying the only plane with the tailwheel at the wrong end (172). But I held my own and have a newfound respect for my ol"172. Flew 5.3 hours and burned 37 gallons of fuel. Heck most of the time I was running less than 2000 RPM and 10 degrees of flaps occasionally to be able to stay in the formation without overrunning the other guys. I wonder how slow the 185's were running? :)

A great time was had by all.

I've been flying around the Treasure Valley in my 182 with 20 degrees of flaps, 2400 RPM & around 17-20 MP and airspeed at 80 mph. I have not figured it out (and I should), but I know I'm burning less than 10 gallons an hour. If I had to guess, I'd say it would be around 7-9 gallons on hour.

OBM,

Let me know when you might be heading down to 3T0, we could meet up for lunch/dinner.

What fly-ins are you looking at this weekend? just about got the plane put back together after installing the new windshield.

Mark,

I don't think my pm reached you.

Thursdays lunch is on Bismarck Aero Center. I am planning on coming down to their Grand Opening. Lunch is from 11 to 1:30. See you there.

Son's first flight

We flew up to SunRiver, OR over the weekend to hang out with some friends from Portland.

This was our 8-month-old son's first flight. As you can see, he was a pretty content passenger!

Our daughter is 7 and has flown all over the country with us. That's her hand-me-down pink headset...

Hey Chris -

Sounds like a plan. Both fly-ins are central north-central OK. Clinton-Sherman (CSM) is a Wings thing and Alva (AVK) is their annnual airshow. Both are giving free pancakes if you fly in.

OBM

Looks alittle out of range for the family schedule of events this weekend, guess i'll head to the Texas antique aircraft fly-in in Rhome or the Graham fly-in breakfast.

Let me know about next trip to 3T0. Also we fly over Lawton on our freq trips to visit friends in Scott City, KS.

Today i got to fly around in a helio super courier. 2 hours and it was great. Different than a skywagon in lot's of ways. I always was interested in purchasing one, but will have to see it perform better than it has so far. Don't get me wrong, it performed real good, just not much better tahn my 185. I will wait for judgement for a few more hours though.

Flew from home to Stead where Lance and I then went to Quincy. Walked to town and had breakfast. Met some hippie chicks that gave us the secret handshake told us how to get hooked up.

We then flew to Norvino tried the secret there got no response. So then we flew to Sierraville tried it there and low and behold it worked.

Free entrance into the hot springs, the hippie chicks there didn't think we were current but dealt with us any way.

A real garden spot alright, the dudes are having way more fun with the weed patch than taking care of the airport.

Never knew about all this stuff before today now I even have my own roach clip. Always wanted one of those for doing wiring.

Guess we will have to go back when we have some wine and bring our own chicks now that we have keys to the place.

I took my wife up for the first time today. We flew out of Chandler (CHD) this morning.

Image
Image

Did the VFR transition over Sky Harbor.

Image

Made a big loop on the east side of the valley back to Chandler and ate breakfast there.

Image

All and all she liked it. :D Didn't even get sick but did say hear ears didn't clear. We only got up to 4500 I don't know.:-k She got a stuffy nose on the flight too. I scuba dive too and I've heard of some pills that can help the swelling in the ears and help them clear. Has any on experience with this or have any suggestions?
