Re: Who Has a Good Cupholder Option?

https://www.midlandhardware.com/249634. ... gLMjfD_BwE I had 2 of these mounted in my 170 on each side. They’re super inexpensive and worked well for their purpose. I found them at a local auto parts store. I modified them with a dremmel, cutting part of the top portion off, then drilling a hole to mount it.

You can see the cup holder mounted just below the side of the windshield.

Re: Who Has a Good Cupholder Option?

I have one like this: www.amazon.com/Liquid-Caddy-Beverage-At ... way&sr=8-2

I originally purchased it to use on the motorcycle, but quickly put it into the plane. It comes with several different mounts and had a fairly large opening that will accomodate different sizes of beverage containers. I think I paid $5.00 at a 'Surplus' type store.

A friend of mine was looking at minivans in the early 90's. He needed something to fit his large family, and this was before the SUV boom. So his options were limited. I will never forget why he rejected one of them.

He came back to the office after looking at it and said that it had 22 cup holders. Someone else said that sounded great. No matter what he'd be all set.

He shot that guy a death stare and said, "I'm trying to buy an automobile, not a restaurant".

Very strange moment.

I used these in my 180 and will put them in my 206 again. They are nice because they fold up when not in use. They hold well enough to be used in a few different brands of swathers, so I trust them in the plane.

Re: Who Has a Good Cupholder Option?

Nothing fancy but holds a drink, pens, glasses, spare batteries for headset, napkins, food, zip lock bags (you know...), flashlight, etc.

I took one of these...

Cut it in half...

cut slots for some strap to hold on the back of a seat...

I use it on the co pilot's seat back facing forward when solo and face it backwards on the pilot's seat back when the wife or others are flying with me and they can manage the contents (CRM :D )

Rob, you don't need a drink holder with a co-pilot that has that level of focus on the job!

Re: Who Has a Good Cupholder Option?

I tried a RAM mounted drink holder. As long as I didn't climb more than a couple thousand feet from the altitude that I was when I mounted it, it worked fine. But like every other suction cup item, if I climb more than that, it'll come loose, no matter how well I put it on. Very disconcerting when the cup or can is full! So I can't recommend anything that uses a suction cup.

I had roadrunner holder and thermal vessel on my bilkes. Very well made hoop that holds thermal cup and the cups do not leak even upside down. The holders are keyed and were easy to install and remove. Will put them in my plane.

I can't possibly be the only guy who just puts the beer can between his legs between gulps, can I?

Apparently you've never seen me fly...or drink.

Re: Who Has a Good Cupholder Option?

Cup holders? We don't need no stinking cup holders! I just use a thermos with a good sipping straw valve. It keeps cold drinks cold, hot drinks hot and it doesn't care about turbulence. The valve with a "straw" end seals tight when it's closed and lets me sip my favorite beverage without sloshing when drinking, even when it's really rough going. When I'm done with my sip I close the valve and toss it on the seat next to me.

Re: Who Has a Good Cupholder Option?

If it's too bumpy to not be able to use the cup on my Stanley thermos, I do without. I only drink coffee, any water is just in a water bottle stuffed under the seat. You guys are decadent! Nothing better then glass smooth early morning air, full fuel tanks, and a thermos full of good coffee. And big tires, to help find places to land, to get rid of the recycled coffee. If I didn't have big tires, I would use the thermos, they work together.

BTW, Starbucks makes pretty damn good instant coffee.

This is my go to. You have to be careful though as I’ve had mine build up pressure while driving over the pass (6000’) and brought it up to my face to take a drink and as soon as I opened the spout it geysered me right in the eye! It hurt and it wasn’t just a little bit of water that came out either. I hate to think about what would have happened if it was hot coffee  . Fortunately I don’t often fly that high in the airplane so nothing more that just a wet lap  .

Some years ago, a well off gent I knew was shopping for cars.....I only semi jokingly suggested that he buy a Porsche Turbo.

His response: "Nope, I test drove one--Great car, but they don't come with a cup holder." Seriously.....
