This is McCall ID in 1992. Scott is on the right, Matt Zymack(sp) in the blue shirt and my dad and me. Matt had his DC 4 there to drop fire retardant. Jim Eldridge had just helped mount the engines with his self loader log truck. You can just see the Smoke Jumper base over the Bronco.

Yes, they still fly the 46, fairly regularly out of Kenai.

I only worked there a year but I don't remember stories of them ever flying the 3.

This airstrip is about 1/2 mile from my house. The plane is owned by a group of guys that acquired it over 20 years ago. I saw it fly over my place back when they first got it. Sure looked and sounded sweet. It was parked, and not much progress in restoration is visible. I'd bet it isn't airworthy at this point, and since it's been so long just sitting, maybe the owners would be in the selling mood.

I'd love to see the old bird in the air again.

Everts doubtless operates the largest fleet of C-46 aircraft in the world. I'm not sure how many they currently fly, but there's Dumbo, Salmon Ella, Maid In Japan....and maybe a couple others flying. They have a large collection of 46 parts, however.....



Cliff Evert bought his first C 46 from Wien back when Cliff flew for Wien, I believe, or shortly after leaving Wien anyway. Everts never operated DC 3s, however.

Might be worth contacting Buffalo Airways in Yellowknife, they still operate 2 or 3 DC3's and they have numerous unairworthy ones at their maintenance hangar in Red Deer, AB. They might have a line on any 3's in your area. I met Joe MacBryan once, real nice guy to talk to, nothing like the TV drama

Also Ken Borek Air in Calgary has a few converted to turboprop, they might know of some as well?

Missionary Flights Internatonal in Ft. Pierce, FL had a DC 3 for sale recently. I don't know if they sold it or not. They operate 2 turbine DC3s and are currently raising funds to add another to their fleet.
