Do yourself a favor and file the casting joint on the inside of the fork.

Re: Your favorite 206 STCs?

If you fly at max gross a lot or high altitude the wing extension ( Whip Tips ) and VG’s are the best mod you ever do period.

The plane climbs easier at higher speed keeps cylinders cooler and flies in the proper cruise attitude without dragging its tail.

If its an early 206 they need a cuff 73 and on are ok but sportsman is the best cuff.

Robertson is the last thing I would add, ailerons suck unless you add VG’s that helps a bit ( Makes it suck less)

Leading edge is by far the best exhaust, power-flow bought them out not sure if they build them again .

I have the airglass fork on the wheel-plane with a Canadian field approval to run the 26“ goodyears 850 nose-wheel a sweet combination.

cheers…...

Re: Your favorite 206 STCs?

Can confirm, the oil cooler relocation does nothing for #5 temps, or at least not enough to matter. That one has me scratching my head. Oh well.

I'm ready for more wing upgrades, I'm thinking sportsman and maybe flints or wing x, I like the idea of VGs but for some reason I'm fighting a mental block on installing them. The only thing that bums me out about the flints is apparently you can't help but stagger the leading edge with them+sportsman. I don't necessarily need the fuel or additional gross.

Re: Your favorite 206 STCs?

Sorry, the oil cooler relocation didn’t do much, I really appreciate that you went to the trouble of trying that, and was looking forward to the results!

I have VGs in a box and have not got around to installing them,… with the R STOL, I can approach at 50 mph, but I am considering adding a sportsman leading edge, my understanding is that it can extend your glide ratio, which could be helpful under certain conditions :-)

This last year I have added the Earth, X and the Power Flow exhaust (was Leading Edge). Very happy with both!

Re: Your favorite 206 STCs?

I just did the plugs on the 206 with the Leading Edge exhaust. Gave my annual pint of blood on the lower plugs.

The hardest ones (all lower) are 3, 4 and 6. Even with the special short plug socket that came with the exhaust, it's tough. A while back, I posted some pictures of the special tools needed to do the lower plugs. https://backcountrypilot.org/forum/power-flow-exhaust-5566?start=40#p334104. Missing from those photos is the plug lead wrench and an extra thick Craftsman 7/8" wrench that can be used, lengthwise, to do the plug lead on #6.

Definitely install the Sportsman LE. It is by far the best of the leading edge mods, and it makes a significant difference in the flight characteristics of the airplane, all positive.

But, installed in tandem with the Robertson STOL kit, the Sportsman will take most, if not all of the occasional "bite" of the RSTOL kit at the stall. The result for me was instead of using the RSTOL as added insurance at slow speeds, I actually slowed my landing speeds substantially. Stall it in any configuration and the roll off is pretty much gone, and the break, if you can get it to break, is just a gentle nod. The way it should be.
