Glad you're all still aboard even though this has taken forever.

All the years between those photos went by in a blink of an eye!

I know what you mean... I've noticed that over the last twenty years of so, a good bit of my hair has migrated from my head to my ears... LOL

Color is all laid down. Still some other bits to paint up but this project is about to turn the corner towards reassembly so it'll be great to start seeing some progress, finally.

The Dawn Patrol Grey is a nice shade that turned out exactly as we'd hoped.

Excellent! Are you going to add a trim color?

Yes, we're taking inspiration from some 1930's military paint schemes for the yellow wings and grey fuselage. Don't quite know exactly what it'll be now, but once it starts coming together we are going to think about what to do.

We're not professionals so we are just "winging" it!

Took a peek this morning and the finish is satisfactory.

Wow, gray and yellow combo is going to look great! I had 2 silver and yellow airplanes and they looked great. One had a small amount of blue trim which really looked great.

Re: 1999 ACA 7ECA Citabria Aurora

One suggestion I have is get the deepest brightest brilliant yellow you can find. You dont want a washed out yellow or a mustard cub type yellow with the gray, it just doesn’t look very as good as it could. When painting the yellow on top of the gray put down a light coat of white first, this does wonders for the yellow.

Great tips, thanks! Here is a reminder of the shade of bright yellow on the already completed wings.

Re: 1999 ACA 7ECA Citabria Aurora

If you send a little piece of that old color in to Andy, he could do a good close match. Definitely a light coat of white under the yellow. Best thing about this paint is that it'll just keep getting smoother for a long time. It loves heat to flow out. When you come back and look in a month, it'll look even better. :D
Great job!

God put me here to accomplish a certain amount of things...right now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!!

Re: 1999 ACA 7ECA Citabria Aurora

Thanks John.

We slapped the horizontals on with old wires and hardware temporarily just to get some motivation.

Might as well store the rudder on the fuse too.

Yellow inspection plates are temporary.

Thanks Kurt. It is right up your alley in matching your recommendation to go with a bright yellow. I was happy when you suggested it and we were already kinda there. [emoji1360]

Re: 1999 ACA 7ECA Citabria Aurora

I would give strong consideration to going back with the stock scheme that came off it, its a great looking scheme and with that gray instead of white it would look bitchin! :D Use blue as the trim color.

Re: 1999 ACA 7ECA Citabria Aurora

Or.... Look at my Widgeon (since sold) in my avatar, you could do a dark top of the cowl with a simple stripe down the side (NO hockey stick up the tail) that would look great. You could do the red and white stripe on the rudder with a blue top. Just a thought.
