The Atlee Dodge letter from the FAA for 8.50-6 tire on Cessna 180's and 170's calls for 4 ply tires.

I don't think any one would fault you for using 6 ply tires. Aircraft tire ratings are per tire. That weight is distributed over 3 tires. Goodyear 8.50-6 6 ply ribbed tires are rated at 2275 lbs. The Goodyear 8.00-6 6ply tires are rated at 2050lbs, that's what I am currently running on the 170. I have not put my aircraft on scales but at max gross I bet is less than 1000lbs per main tire.

The benefit of the Desser Tundra for me would be a bigger tire at less weight, and lack of ribs to throw rocks at the tail. Goodyear 8.50-6 weight 13.3lbs the dresser 10lbs. A weight savings of 6.6 lbs, some guys are spending $1000's to save that amount of weight. They can be installed without a field approval using the Atlee letter and a mechanics 337.
I think it would be a good tire for the 170, and will fit my mission profile.
Yep looks like it will not ship till the end of February.
Food for thought, my work aircraft has a gross weight of 42,000 lbs. It's on 5 8.50-10 12ply tires rated at 9000lb.
Cheers
