Eric, the line in the sand is March.

Not only is the screen scrunched up, but several of the wires in the screen are broken off.

can repair these or go with the Burl ones https://www.burlac.com/Fuel_Screen.pdf

Yowsa! $250 each. For me, that would be $1000 for my two tanks.

I could spend a lot of time practicing my soldering for $1000 USD

No kidding. Beautiful product though. Probably a big chunk of the expense is for the STC. I think one make the argument that this is either no alteration or at worst, a minor alteration. Or, let me chase down a field approval and charge less.

Re: Engine is toast turned into full plane project

Yeah. You’re going to find stuff like that on these old airplanes. Who knows what the story was there.

Ugly as it is, I think it’s airworthy. The split pins will sheer before you tear out through the middle of that snowman. Never going to lose the hollow shaft out of the saddle due to that.

For those that don’t know, the holes for the split pins are drilled at random locations, angles, and not though the tube centre. They are matched for life and have to go back in the same way they came out in order to get the split pin holes to line up.

Yeah - think should be able to repair, was thinking weld/fill in the non used side of the snowman and then straighten out the wobble on that collar.

Re: Engine is toast turned into full plane project

I'm pretty happy with how these assist handles came out, handles match my paint scheme and replaced the old handle ends that were about to pull through the screw with these new titanium ends.

He is using the picture of mine on his page that he made. If you just want the ends, without the paracord handle, you can get them from bushliner.com

$100 each.
Do you know how much Bushliner gets for just the ends?
Wang leather straps would be a nice, old school touch.

They are $25 per end which includes(titanium end, screw, and bushing - they made it so there is a bushing between screw and the titanium end (like how the seatbelts are attached)) - so $50 for each handle for the titanium ends.

Re: Engine is toast turned into full plane project

Another little mechanical issue that was fixed as part of this.

Ah... the old upgrade your generator to a 70 amp alternator - but leave it on a 50 amp circuit breaker install method. And yes I did have that circuit breaker pop before.

Nice, 70 AMP ALTERNATOR, I gots power to spare

Not so nice - they installed it and kept the original 50 amp circuit breaker

Re: Engine is toast turned into full plane project

Yeah, 50 A breaker (along with under-sized wire) not so good; however, wonder if there will ever be a 50 A load. Wonder how many owners have an up to date situational load analysis/spreadsheet? Probably only a handful. By situational, I mean what is the flight scenario - night/ifr/icing is going to have a higher electrical load than day/vfr. I prepared one for my plane years ago and was good to know I still had some margin even in worst case situation/worst case duty cycles (eg, radio transmitting vs just receiving). And, I am still running incandescent lighting with a 60 A Ford alternator.

Re: Engine is toast turned into full plane project

Looking good!!! Those Quasars are going to be a nice touch, I got them for my 170 with the Sportsman also, well worth it. Also I second the comment about the newer rudder pedals, mine were worn badly and I swapped them, much nicer feel.

That Paint scheme looks awesome, cant wait to see it!
