Re: One missing near Johnson Crk/Yellow Pine

It was pretty amazing to witness the effort for the tomnod and gopro image reviews by hundreds of people. I pray someday similar effort can have a better conclusion.

Rest in peace and condolences to friends and family. Gone west with clear skies and tailwinds now.

Re: One missing near Johnson Crk/Yellow Pine

I guess that is good, i really feel for the families involved...aviation and central idaho in particular, are most definitely not very forgiving of a few mistakes we can and do all make...growing up here i still remember how strict and damn careful my dad was going in and out of loon creek and etc...maybe as i get a lot older i tend to really appreciate him more than ever as a commercially rated pilot ...

It will be interesting to see where the plane is and if CAP bungled the search or not. I'm glad the family got closure today.

Re: One missing near Johnson Crk/Yellow Pine

I was in the Facebook group that found the plane last night using recent satellite imagery. The family does not want the lat/long released to the public now that the plane has been found but it was public last night.

It was less than a mile east of the strip in a thick group of trees.

Re: One missing near Johnson Crk/Yellow Pine

It's one of those things that it's amazing that they found it, but once the frame was up and someone made it out it is truly amazing that not a single person saw it before the person saw it last night. The fuselage was on it's side with the tail number facing up directly between the trees.

Does someone have a link to that image?

Re: One missing near Johnson Crk/Yellow Pine

Was it a satellite image or a gopro image from one of the overflights?

Those satellite images are really low resolution.

Re: One missing near Johnson Crk/Yellow Pine

It was Tomnod satellite imagery. It was located south of the raw return.

Re: One missing near Johnson Crk/Yellow Pine

Actually, your image shows directly where the debris is. The family has asked that that not be disclosed to the public until at least the NTSB has arrived on location.

Can this be flagged members only or something?

Re: One missing near Johnson Crk/Yellow Pine

Edit - removed - looks like it was the wrong image anyway.

Re: One missing near Johnson Crk/Yellow Pine

That's not it. I uploaded the two photos, but now I can't remember how to link them.

Image

FINALLY! It is about 1/3 up from the bottom and 1/8 from the left. There is a green arrow shaped spruce that it is to the left of. If you look it looks like 4 dots that they originally thought was "44RW" I don't know what that piece ended up being, but it was the plane.

I hope my question didn't come across as being nosy or going against family wishes. I hope the location is not disclosed. My interest is what the satellite image looked like for learning purposes, not location.

Re: One missing near Johnson Crk/Yellow Pine

I removed the image locating the debris field - I'll repost after some time as passed... But I'll point out there are almost 2500 people on the facebook page with access to the image - and once you have a link - anyone in the public can see it - as I did.

no doubt, I would just prefer to keep us out of the negative spot light because the media attention is going to blow up on this in the next 48 hours, that's why I have done mine through screen grabs.

Re: One missing near Johnson Crk/Yellow Pine

Even after knowing there's a plane crash in that image - I still can't see it. I cannot help but think it was augmented with a gopro shot from an overflight to warrant going that far away from the snowcat to check it out. All those red pins to the north were also checked out on foot apparently.
