She isn't stellar on the fuel conservation, but we can get a 56K lb bird airborne in just around 200' and land in just under that, so I guess we have the STOL thing figured out (at sea, anyway, and with a little bit of steam and steel).

I got this speeding ticket last year at Salinas airshow. Go figure, California CHP just looking for a quick buck.

KjNastro...bet I was faster that you...cause mine is a blue one!

Here's my ride
1955 Cesssna 170 B. With Babby Bush Wheel on the rear, Bass pull handles on the tail, Bass shoulder harnesses, P-Ponk Beef up kit on main gear, Double puck cleavlands, 29 x 11 Air Hawks mounted on 10" Alaska Bush Wheels, 80x42 Borer Prop and Sportsman Stol Kit.

Thanks to Wup and Steve over at Alaska Bushwheel, and Willie at Stene's aircraft, you can teach old airplane's new tricks. It's not fast, but I'm in no hurry.

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Awesome plane! That's pretty much what I want to do with my 170. I already put on an 8042, I want to put on a Sportsman Stol kit and bigger tires soon also.

Don't forget the 180 w/csp. I think that's the best money spent on your 170.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Doesn't hurt to keep an eye out for the parts. engine/mount/prop. I have seen deals on them in the past, not too frequent. Usually cheaper to buy one all done, but if you really like your plane, then that's the other way to go.???????????? Although, you might be able to sell yours, put another $20K??? with the proceeds and get one all done and ready to go, particularly in this market. Yours is gettin kinda famous, might bring extra $'s

As long as you're not in a hurry, that seaplane prop does much the same thing for STOL work for a lot less dough.

Thanks, Dirtstrip and Courierguy! As the Newbie on the block, I'm looking forward to pursuing backcountry flying again and sharing and experiencing all the tales with you guys on this site. The 26" Airstreaks are in the shop, ready for mounting and tearing things up this Spring :D

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Hey, Em, you know it! See you in the Rockies this Summer? Hey, Backcountry Tundra, thanks! If interested in the entire Rans S7 build, check out s7courier.blogspot.com. Hard to get used to going from nothing but building to nothing but flying! Tough duty, eh?
