It's crazy I guess but if I ever had the dough to own a twin it would probably have to be a Baron. But I'd always want to pretend I was in an Aero Commander. Maybe a Shrike 500. Yeah that's it, normal engines would be OK. Forget the Baron. Shrike.

Shrikes are great. And pricy..![]()
I had my eyes set on one of those, but alas, the few copper coins in the jar only stretched to an old 520, the orphan, the first born, the old news.. Sometimes aircraft have a tendency to find you, rather than the other way around. I'm glad she did. I love that her pain-in-the-**s-geared-engines-come-overhaul also make her get off the ground in no time. You get a little good with the bad, so to speak. I don't think there's a twin around that could beat her in ground roll, frankly. Not even an Islander. Maybe a 337.
Here's a lightly loaded 600ft ground roll we did:

But if one really wants a Shrike 500, one should do a Merlyn engine conversion and stick 350hp aside in them. Then one can do impressive short field take off's as well. Not as short as a 520, but then again, who's measuring..![]()

Yup.
O-360, 31" Bushwheels, total empty weight <1300#.
Pretty nice flyer, but I'd like to get a bigger prop turning in front...
Post it to http://www.tinypic.com first. They will give you an image code to paste in here. Well looka there. Matt fixed you up!AKGrouch wrote:I agree. I've been trying to make it larger. Right now it's 2000 x 1339 and it still looks like a gnat.....grrrrrrr. I'll figure it out though. There it is......
Thanks! Yes, the K35 was traded in on the Sport Cub at the end of 2007 when I decided to simplify my life and go Sport Pilot. Then a couple of years later I inherited my late father's 172, and we couldn't bring ourselves to sell it.SixTwoLeemer wrote:Nice stable Pilawt.
