Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Work on the tail, replace some rivets, and try to sound proof the interior. This 1980 is very original and a lot quieter. Also, going to see if I can transfer the MT prop from the 470K to the U with just paperwork and see if it is just paperwork to speed this U up 200 rpm and make it into a Texas Skyways UTS that can use the MT. That would be nice if it is possible.

What's the weight difference?
Also curious as to how you'd describe the difference(s) in how they fly.
180's are not what people would call real nimble airplanes,
but I've heard the later models are a lot less so.

Looks like the 180K is right at 200 lbs more at 1768 on paper. I've only flown it once and cruising around felt about the same. Did a wheel landing on asphalt that was okay but definitely not a cushy as the Bushwheels on grass. I think the thicker gear legs don't give as much.My old one has late model articulating seats that are jacked all the way up. This new one doesn't and I couldn't hardly see ahead so got a couple of cushions until I get an articulating moved over. Got to get some farming done and then get some hours in. For those wanting to get started in a 180, Bushwheels and grass would be the easiest.

Old bird (cardinal), and new bird. Miss the space in the cardinal and extra seats, but like everything else more with the glastar so far.

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

I don't have any Cardinal experience, but it seems for a haul-the-family type plane, it's got a great amount of space and goes pretty quick. I bet it'd do good on groomed grass as well.

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

The Cardinal is very comfortable, especially for big people. Lower on gear and big doors. Wind damage to hinges a huge issue. Fast and five hours at just over 8 gph at 21 inches and 2500 RPM. I didn't like the bigger cowl on the O-360. It was harder to see over on pipeline patrol.

Not as good as 182 on short field, but I got it into a quarter mile patch with scattered mesquite on a forced landing. Cut a grove in the stabilator on a metal fence post.

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

The cardinal was a lot more comfortable to fly, but the glastar is faster, cheaper to fly and can go to better places. But definitely days I miss the old one.

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

I love my Cardinal. It's been places a Cardinal has no right to go. It's been places and it's seen things. Unspeakable things

Every time I fly it, I think what a great plane, fast for the fuel burn, super comfy, heaps of room, carries a decent load, easy to maintain, very solid and predictable handling that's better than pretty much any other Cessna single and surprisingly good 'back country' performance. I have a lot of confidence in the plane and would take it anywhere I would put a 172 or stock 182

I think the 177 is a much better all-rounder than a 172 and a very underrated aircraft :D

I'm not. What is it? Has an aluminum wing? X-Cub cowling?

Pretty sure it's a cub style fuselage with C150 wings. I've seen it around FB some.

Yep. This is the first one Clint built. It's a bit of a one-off with a Mackey built fuselage vs. the new fuselages Clint is building in house. C150 wings and this one has a Horton cuff while the later builds have a sportsman. Pretty impressive stol performance while maintaining a 120+ mph cruise. Cowling is actually off of a Panther homebuilt.

Looks very similar to the "Badlands Traveler" that I saw online a few years ago.
I'd think it was the same airplane but the paint job is different.
Did some googling-- built by the same guy, looks like he's built 4 airplanes.
This one is the "Cessna Cub"-- it came before the Traveler.

Clint started out building Supercubs, and I know that he built at least two. One of them Dan Reimler owns now. Dan's plane is 700 lbs, flapped with a C90. Doug Budd has the other. After those he decided to change it up and build this Cessna cub. Next to come was the first actual Badlands Traveler, it's the yellow one with a 0-320. After the yellow plane came the blue one with 172 wings and a 0-360. I never did fly the blue one, but Clint didn't seem all that impressed so he decided that the one he's currently building is going to be with the 150 wings. He's fielded a lot of calls on building kits for people, but his bread and butter is still Vetterman exhaust so the airplane building remains a side gig.

If you google Badlands Traveler, there's a pretty good video made by the owner that shows off the airplane's capabilities very well.

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

2002 with 29 buffed tires on ABI wheels. Will add a baby bush wheel soon. VGs wing and tail, gap seals as well. She is heavier than most but gets off pretty well. I operate it her out of a private 800 foot strip. A few pics of the plane and one of the panel. The plane and I are IFR certified. Don’t normally plan flights when IMC is known but have done a few when necessary. Pretty stable and the G5’s are awesome.
