Looks awesome. Don't go making it all pretty now, looks ready for action and not scared of the dirt.

Re: Project Retro Wagon - 180A

Thanks for the kind words. :)

Vick: It's good to hear from you!

Utah Maule: This one is built for the dirt and playing. I'd love to have a fresh paint job and new interior, but that's not in the budget. Some panel upgrades (or downgrades depending on your perspective) and weight loss is all I have on the short list.

Blackrock: I sold the BBW for prop money. I needed a new fork anyway as I was going from a 3200 (Stinson) to a 3400 head. The wienie wheel does ok for now, but an upgrade is on the long term wish list.

Tadpole: I know you're busy guy, but when our schedules line up, lets do it.

I told my wife when I get the 31's on my landings will improve, that's all she needed to hear to give me the go ahead. #-o (Between you and me, my landings are still sub-par.)

Re: Project Retro Wagon - 180A

Nice ride, the 31's look awesome!!! The gold standard, supposedly, are the 29's on the Skywagon......but like everything in aviation there seems to be many conflicting opinions. I've been runnin the 29's and they work great, the main reason didn't go with 31's was cause it wouldnt fit in the ranch hanger

Anyways, put them 31's through the paces and let us know how they perform, no doubt they look badass. Before I got mine, talked to Bill at AKBushwheel for a long time and he told me the the 29's were good insurance, the 31's were great insurance, and the 35's were excellent insurance!!!

Hope you have a blast with your new ride! Nothin like a bushed out skywagon haha

Re: Project Retro Wagon - 180A

A little raw footage of my 2nd and 3rd landings with the new mods. Not really the conditions you want to practice in, but it did make for some short takeoffs and landings.

I have since put the 31s through the bounce test and side loading test, and I'm still impressed with the results. The 31's really absorb a lot abuse that would have been transferred to the airframe. I'll keep the updates coming.

Re: Project Retro Wagon - 180A

Awesome Matt! Looks very badass!

While not as badass as that, I just finished gathering the parts to upgrade the 205 to the 600/800 set up. I'll be pulling the strut this weekend to send off to have the new fork installed. Really looking forward to it! Hoping to have it done by Caveman.

Re: Project Retro Wagon - 180A

I'm embarrassed to say how long the B.A.S. stuff has been sitting on the shelf in the hangar ( #-o ) but with the help of a few friends, both the shoulder harnesses and tail pull handle were installed this week! I will tell you what, BAS Inc makes some FINE products and the attention to detail is top notch. =D> Money well spent!

It did make me cringe a little when we started poking holes in the old retro wagon. :|

Re: Project Retro Wagon - 180A

This is a great thread!

1. How to buy a plane
2. How to reduce the CHT's
3. How to land it
4. Modding for bush wheels, etc.

All of which I need with the exception of 1. Above.

Matt, if your landings are sub-par, mine are off the chart bad!!!

Thanks to Matt and all the contributors to the thread. Now, I'm headed out to practice landing!!!
