Had a great mountain flight yesterday. Departed at the break of dawn and had a great flight over the Rockies in crisp, smooth air.

Someone with a more capable plane and a bigger set of cojones can give it a whirl. I'll go in for a closer look next time I'm in the area.

No kidding, that cabin is 13K+?! Wow, how did they get it up there, any sign of a road? Hard to tell if it's landable, sure looks like a firm "maybe", I can't tell from here. A GREAT find Matt, now find out more about it and report back.

I have played around for years on different ideas on how to airdrop or more likely air haul a small building's components, something that wouldn't blow away (using onsite rocks for ballast work work), for a probably illegal secret erection on a few sites i know of. The best I have come up with is using ICF's (insulated concrete forms) the big foam interlocking blocks you then fill with concrete. One brand I saw has the internal plastic grids only in place after the two foam sides go together, so you could haul a bunch of them easy, light and compact, and then fill the voids with gravel and whathaveyou on the mountaintop. For now a tent works though.

Best I can tell is it is an old mining cabin from many years ago. It's just south of Horseshoe Mountain (east of Leadville) at about 13,875ft. Just below the cabin looks better than at the cabin. Would make for an epic picture for those who are daring. Fun to think about if nothing else (I play the "what's the best way to land there game" in my head while flying).

Okay, enough daydreaming and thinking I have a 914 turbo S-7 in the hangar.....

Landable, for sure. As far as the slope and the length available go, done similar many times, not at that height but lots of 8 to 10k+. I've never had occasion or need to get much over 11K, though the normally aspirated 912S was still performing good and the climb rate was more then adequate. I just like flying low too much to really get my moneys worth out of going turbo.

A good clear takeoff run anyway. I had to pass on a 8800' landing last weekend, scoping out a cell phone tower site/crane job. I had the landing all figured out after the 4 th. pass, but then started thinking the trees I could easily slip in over, would/could be a problem on takeoff as the wind was in my face while making the uphill landing, but a tailwind on takeoff, and it was warming up. I've caught myself more then once at a more demanding new landing site kind of forgetting about the takeoff aspects, being more obsessed as to how I'm going to land then make the takeoff Thanks for the feedback. Someone....land that bad boy and post some pics.

Matt you have to at very least go make some approaches and feel it out. This is very good day dreaming! What a spot. I landed here in the white mountains at about 13,800 a few times with Grant. It was not all that bad. Just a bit longer on the roll and 50mph was really more like 70mph.

Really nice looking Piper.

We have been getting the same rains here in NM and it has been wonderful!! Had some folks at Negrito (0NM7) last weekend and it has knee high grass and looks lush. Big change from just a 6 months ago.

If you get a chance, bring the Piper to Negrito the weekend of 20th thru 22nd. Would love to look it over.

Deb I and the Dog Jake took a little ride on Sunday, had the gopro running for a bit, really don't have anything on my laptop to do much with, so will be a few days before I can post it. Have to get somewhere with more capacity than the village wireless!!

Went down river on the Yukon to the Bridge, followed the road and pipeline to Cold Foot, then ran down to Bettles for a bite, saw an ass kickin 175 there with a turboed 250 Franklin Q tip prop,and with all the other good stuff on it to make it fly, Nice bird!!
Will try and post something as the COLORS WERE JUST OUTSTANDING!!

I finally got out of the 207 again for some fun flying today. 3 trips to the Cheeneetnuk River bench in the 185 to drop off hunters. Due to weather we didn't get underway until around 6pm tonight, so I called my cousin Barney to take a charter for me with the 180 so my dinner wouldn't be so cold when I got home. We made the first trip at the same time, and I went back again to haul the 3rd load in. When we first got there we had to buzz a few times to chase a black bear off the strip, it disappeared into the woods right where I parked the 185. Fun was had by all. He captured video of me taking off, unfortunately he posted to facebook and posting it here won't work (FB privacy crap).

Well, it wasn't today, but I have been trapped in a combine and this is my first chance to post. After passing my checkride, I flew home for the first time. Since then the neighbors have started joking that you know you're a redneck if you tie your Tri-Pacer down to a tractor weight, a pickup truck, and a clothes line post all next to the corral. Oh well, it works.

Awesome Quis. I love parking the Citabria down with all the farm equipment. Have also been strapped in a combine with no chance to fly lately.
