Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

That thing sits so high you might need to get a step ladder now! And that's nothing against your height, I'm not tall either, I'm perfect!

Perfect is right. Rose is 5'2 so she is even more perfect. I better find a step stool to carry for her. Even with her perfect technique she won't make an unassisted entry.

Good shot-- are you as close as it seems in that photo? How'd the seal pup react? (assuming it's not dead).

You've got that right! I wasn't able to do any fun flying last weekend (I feel like this is the wrong time to be working on IFR). But last week, I was in Colorado and convinced my step dad to give me a mountain flying lesson. We took of from KCOS, flew west by garden of the gods

Image

And the foothills of the front range

Image

Then to Wilkerson Pass via the high planes

Image

I don't know where this one was taken, but it's a very cool pic

Image

I think these are the collegiate mountains between KAEJ and KANK, just past Trout Creek pass. The valley should head to tincup pass.

Image

Finally, Royal Gorge.

Image

The altitudes up there are unreal. My first time over 12,500' (not on an airliner), which was a trip.
I think that after this experience I'm ready to try some mountain flying on my own, in the cascades, anyway. I definitely want to receive some training in valley work. The current strategy is: pass altitude + 2000'.

A cool optical illusion (I think). The road at the near side of the dam to the left appears to drop vertically...

Northwest Maine. Two families flying from a snow covered home strip, up to Sugarloaf Mountain, for some great skiing.

I was standing right over the pup. I think it's mamma was swimming just off shore. I would highly recommend visiting Shelter Cove. A very unique town.

Honestly, I have no idea either!! I don't live in colorado, I was visiting.

KCOS is Colorado Springs (intl?) also Peterson AFB.
KAEJ is Central Colorado Regional
KANK is Harriet Alexander Field

I don't suspect that'll help anyone...

This might:

Too big and too dark for the fir to be valuable. But when he grows up he sure as hell will eat ALL your fish and crap on your seaweed. Tough decisions.

Any reaction from the pup? Or from mama?
I've never been, but I've heard Shelter Cove is a very cool place.
Be careful trying to bash seals, Ice-- marine mammal act & all that. Around parts of Puget Sound, seals are as thick as fleas on a hound dog & wreak havoc with the salmon, but being protected by that marine mammal act keeps anything from being done about it without (practically) an act of congress. Every few years, a pod of orcas will make a swing down through Hood Canal for a few weeks and thin them out. Marine mammals eating marine mammals-- nature in action in spite of man's meddling.

Re: Where did you fly today?

smash was not really the right word.. I took a swipe at him and if they want to come after me so be it... they've closed La Jolla cove which was left to the children of san diego by the scripps family for all time... cause the damn seals have taken over the beach.. now you can't use the beach and even if you wanted to it's poluted with foul smelling seal shit.. how bout sending a few of those orcas down here for a few days...they even have security cameras installed on the beach to monitor if anyone dares to disturb the damn things...and of course the tree huggers have a booth set up to "inform the public" of how endangered the seals are...just shoot me...how did this thread get hijacked?????? #-o

You were just south of Buena Vista (you can see the runway in the center).

Yep those are the collegiate peaks, Mt Antero is off your wing tip.

Cool pics.

I had gotten out of flying for a couple of years so I found an S-12 at a reasonable price. It was a ton of fun but the 2 smoke engine kept the pucker factor too elevated for my liking. I sold the S-12 to a nice gentleman out east that got his sport license in it. I found an excellent S-6 that I thought would make a decent back country plane but the training wheel up front soon proved to be a limiting factor on a number of the rougher local strips. I sold the S-6 locally to a great guy who is also using it to get his sport ticket. After missing out on Emmet's S-7 I was lucky enough to find another Rocky Mountain Kitplanes S-7 in my price range.
Except now I have to bling it up.
Got to have Phat Tires!! Looking for some 26" Airstreaks if anyone has a decent set for sale.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Pretty nice weekend here. One Navajo pilot up on freq asked another if it was smooth on the mountain. Answer: "As smooth as the velour lapels on your baby blue leisure suit." 8)
