Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Looks like those flat gear they use on the 152 TD or 150 TD.

Main landing width seems wide on that tail dragger conversion. Which is good, I like wide gear on a tail dragger for preventing ground looping.

The freestanding room under the aircraft does look lower that a classic C-170 for sure? Interesting point.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I looked up the tail number & that's a Hawk XP. An old AOPA Pilot magazine I have (June 1996- my, how time flies!) had a write-up on a similar airplane. That one had a Bush t'w conversion stol kit & gap seals, and the Insham 210 hp conversion & was quite a performer. The article didn't go into any depth about the t/w conversion but the subject airplane had the same wide and squatty stance as this one. They probably re-arched the stock gear legs, as I would think taildragger-specific replacement gear legs would have been made taller as well as wider.

I've been meaning to head over to this local private strip for a while, finally made it in. What a great place.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I know it is pretty tame but made it up to Warm Springs for my first time today. Pretty nice strip. Saw one person camping that drove in, other than that had the place to myself. Runway was in good shape. Saw a few groundhogs running around but did not see any holes.

Warm Springs is a nice strip, I'd like to do the hike to the actual warm springs to the north of the strip next time I'm there.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Pretty sweet day yesterday. Flew up to McKenzie Bridge with a friend and our mountain bikes. We arranged to get picked up at the airstrip by a shuttle that took us and to the top of the McKenzie River Trail, ranked as one of the best mountain biking trails in the country.

Image

We rode the 25-mile trail, which is all single-track, surrounded by beautiful waterfalls, clear blue lakes, lush forest and of course the McKenzie River itself.

My friend on one of the lava rocky sections in the upper portion of the trail:

Re: Where did you fly today?

Did you see Highroad and Mrs Highroad up there? I wanted to make it up Saturday, but had some nose bowl repairs that needed to be addressed in the Pacer. Can't wait to get up there with the MTB.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Pretty rough looking bike trail with that lava. My idea of a tough bike ride is to the other end of the airport.

Thank you! I have touched down several times in Lake Shasta. Nice place to cool off in the Summer months. Also, Castle Crags looks interesting for hike and climbing. In fact, from the air, there seems to be a lot of granite rocks around that no body knows of.

Cool trip.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Looking down at my cousin's corn field. The arcing line is where the railroad used to be before being dozed. The anemic yellow left side is where hog manure was applied and the darker green is anhydrous ammonia. It has streaks where the nitrogen was lost. The second picture in another field shows this better---probably will cost at least $50 an acre in reduced yield.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I have been practicing getting in and out as short as I can on a local dirt strip and getting comfortable with my limits. I know my plane can way outperform me still, but yesterday after work I headed north to practice on some real sandbars. Had a blast!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Here's a couple other pics from my JC trip. I was flying somewhere over eastern Oregon enroute from Cascade, ID to Bend, OR. Saw some really nice spots I'd love to build a house. Sorry, can't remember exactly where it was. Somewhere in the vicinity of Canyon City, OR I think. + or - 50 miles or so.
