Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Nice pictures, Mike. I'm also wondering where that cabin is in the 2nd picture?

Yeah I've been to moose a bunch of times but I usually just spend the day fishing and leave.. too tired to explore after that vertical hike to Moose creek and back...

Okay so this wasn't today, as it's raining now... But on Sunday I went and landed a few new gravel bars close to Corvallis.

Tyler Adams, aka Chosstronaut, perished in a mid-air collision October 12, 2014. He was an enthusiastic and beloved contributor and he will be missed greatly.

Re: Where did you fly today?

The cabin is part of the now abandoned Seminole Ranch. About two or so miles up the west side of MC. Nice hike, the fishing wasn't too bad there either. The trail takes you right to it.

I heard from someone that the USFS plans to burn it and the other house, barn, sawmill and out buildings.

Skalywag,

Check out Lake Medina. It has at least two good "low water landing spots" that last time I was over there in my -170 from Del Rio. They were up on the NW upper end of the lake.

That Stearman used to belong to a squadron mate/friend from Bracketville, Oprah Winfrey. I hear it is for sale again?

of course the forest service would want to burn it down... it's what they're good at... destroying history in the name of mother nature....it's why they blow up trees with c4 instead of cutting them down...it's why they burried everything at Cabin creek that was part of the Caswell ranch, the discoverers of Thunder Mountain gold mine..as well as several other properties that date back into the 19th century.....

I certainly don't agree with that way of thinking either ice, that is a cool piece of MC history. Ya better make over there for some pics of your own before the match is struck!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Nice Lake and River photos above and of course the planes too, including the Stearman of course!

Rob, Ice, sorry I'm so slow to respond. I've been either working or out of town since mid May. Maverick is spot on about the Ranch. Just be sure to take the LOWER trail or you'll wind up at the lookout and if the hike from the river to the airstrip is tiring, you probably won't enjoy the upper trail at all.

There is lots of neat stuff around MC and there is lot I haven't seen yet. It would really be a shame for the Forest Service to burn those buildings. I'm guessing the IAA and RAF have spoken to that but it wouldn't hurt for the rest of us to ask what efforts are underway to prevent it. The airstrip at the Seminole ranch needs some minor repairs, but would be a great one to get reopened. There are also the strips upstream where Moose Creek forks that were closed years ago. Having one of those reopened would be good too. I'm sure it is that last thing the FS wants to do however.

These are photos of the Seminole Ranch airstrip:

Thanks Matt, it was one of those lucky times when most of the photos taken turned out really well. I'm in the one keeper for every 100 shots club on most days. #-o

Aint' that the truth. My wife has an eye for shots that really dazzle. Back when I was shooting Kodachrome I used to keep 1 or maybe two out of a roll of 36. She can shoot all day and end up with mostly keepers. Of course she also uses a 2" sheetrock screw to hang a framed photo on a panel door too. "What kind of idiot" she says, "would leave a sharp screw sticking out the back of a closet door like this. Somebody could get really hurt!"

What can a fellow do? Beat them I guess. No that would never work, I sleep sounder than she does. Best just give her the camera and shut up.

It just looks right you know. Great airplane, great weather, fine gravel bars. Just how can it get better? Way to go mister.
