Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Boy I wish we could be there in December. Amazing place, got me hooked on Kona Coffee.

The only place I know of where you can snow ski and surf on the same day. Envious.

Actually you can ski Mt. Hood and still catch the evening swells on the coast.
No problem to do it several places in New Zealand too.
It's easy to ski the French Maritimes and enjoy an evening set in Nice as well.
I'm sure there are others but those are the only one's I've personally done.

Albuquerque. You can ski and play golf the same day, without ever leaving the city.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Just catching up on some flights over the last few weeks.
Desolation Canyon on the Green River, Utah.
I picked up a Go-Pro 3 in Kona a few weeks back and I'm experimenting with different mounts.
I still like my Drift better. Less fiddle factor and way better battery life. The picture quality is better on the Go-pro though.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Did a nice cruise around the Reno area, stopped a bunch of places we did during the fly in. Lot more fun landing the sand with some real tires. :D

Finally landed the gold mine!

Amazing pictures, guys!

Nothing crazy here, finished up with the 182 last week and in the Baron now. Should be in the C-12 in a week and a half or so. Waiting for better weather to do upset recovery training in a Zlin!

This is from early this month. Best time of the year to fly in this area.

Hey S-12, missed ya last month when we were out at Mack Mesa for a few days. What a great little airport. We'll be back.

I love angels Point. Dirty devil is fun too of course. But the view is much better on the south side of the short runway overlooking the point. We got a lot of great footage there this last spring.

Ladd told me you had been there. Sorry I missed you. We were in Kona for a couple of weeks. Give me a heads up next time and I'll make sure to be there.
I truly am spoiled to live and fly in this area.

Nice little camping spot on the end by the point also. It was a little washed out last time so we opted for the longer, wider E/W strip.

Yeah definitely, Roger built a great Rebel, that was it in his ad. His build documents are top notch. I've done a few mods to it to make it more back country friendly, but a fantastic starting point. I really should create a list of mods to do a real back country Rebel, the list would be relatively short, but from what I've found, fairly important.

Good news is the new motor for the super cub arrived yesterday and will go on next week hopefully. Its a Lycon 0-320 160, dyno'd at 185HP.

Not trying to throw rocks at you, but I hear a lot of comments about what people's airplane engines dyno out at. I've seen dynos used for cars & motorcycles, but have been in several airplane engine overhaul shops and have yet to actually see a dyno set-up in any of them. I asssume that it's an apparatus that bolts onto the crank flange for when the engine is run on a test stand. I tried googling but all I could come up with was photos of test stands.Anyone got a photo of a dyno?

Re: Where did you fly today?

Hotrod150, no worries I was just throwing the info out there. It was run in on a test stand for 1.5 hours or so which takes all day tweaking. I'll try to get up the paperwork posted, for those interested, that they sent us showing the data from the break in on the stand, really interesting stuff. 185 was the peak power and it made that for one minute at almost 2700 RPM. Its intriguing to look at the numbers, although all I care about is performance. The important thing, which I have learned the hard way, is to get an engine from a reputable shop that runs the motor in on a test stand, IMO anyways #-o

Ly-con is the only shop that I've ever heard of having a dyno… apparently they build a lot of the race engines for the Reno crowd. True that the word dyno is seldom mentioned in aviation.
